My Life Online - The Reply Girl Phenomenon

Extended version of Vice Magazine's online series Vice Today.

"Reply Girls" have found a loophole on YouTube that allows them to use their cleavage to make a bit of cash. This is a behind the scenes look at one of YouTubes most hated personalities, "TheReplyGirl".

*promote - way more interesting than i thought it'd be. in one way, they're fucking annoying, but in another i kinda appreciate that they're just exploiting this niche to get by. there's far worse things out there to do.

That's unfortunate and unfair.

Sure, it might be unappealing. But Youtube incentivizes reply girl behavior because youtube isn't about quality content, it's about turnover and clickthru rates.

It's a pretty good exposé tho, I'd encourage everyone to watch the second half.

It really humanizes alejandra. Gives her depth and reminds us that we're all just little ape people trying to make it thru life.

I made it half-way through. Great example of just how horrifying the youtube community is. Glad there's an alternative.

There's lots of reply girls but the one in this video takes the cake for making you wish you had not clicked her video. Her facial expression and tone of voice are so dull and stupid sounding. There is also literally zero percent content in her videos, apart from vaguely recapping the contents of whatever she's replying to. She just describes the video and calls it a reply.

I had no idea what a reply girl was before watching this video. I'm still a bit clueless about the practice, but I found this very interesting to watch. It's easy to forget we're all real people with real feelings, the internet needs more content that doesn't dehumanise us.

I'm impressed by the number of people speaking out in favour of a "replygirl", cos i thought the term meant "an empty headed big titted youtube user who shows cleavage to make money." I'm not an exhibitionist so i wouldn't know whether it's worth it or not; to me it's not.

But in the interests of restoring the balance; i don't have respect for people who shake their tits about for money in this way. I hope she's investing some of the cash she's making for her impending retirement because i hear tits devalue rapidly with both age and familiarity. Could invest in surgery i suppose but that's a cycle that'll eventually end in mother nature's favour.

Porn - you couldn't get away from it even if you wanted to.

I wasn't very clear, I was horrified by the people threatening her, not by the girl who cleverly found a way to make money on youtube. What she does seems mildly irritating but harmless; it's easy not to click on her videos if you don't want to. Harmless unless merely seeing a little thumbnail of cleavage sends you into a rage spiral. But people that sensitive about boobs should really abandon the internet as a lost cause.

The chick objectifies herself by positioning her cleavage just so, making absolutely worthless videos with literally no real content, and contributing nothing to YouTube. In fact she, and other reply girls, bring down the level of the whole site/community/culture. Then she complains when the miscreants who are attracted by her cleavage leave "dehumanizing" remarks on her videos. I say fuck her right in her boring, stupid-sounding ass.

If Youtube has a feature to block channels and/or specific uploaders, these girls would find that their presence would be mitigated in a month.

They change their thumbnails, or misrepresent themselves. Maybe not all of them, but most of them do it. Plus the guys who take videos and make a similar title to something you are searching for and find out it's someone putting typed text in......

As soon as you hit one of those and could hit a big button that says "NEVER SEE CONTENT FROM THIS USER AGAIN", boom done.....gone.

Add that one feature and these people can do whatever they like, until then...they should be hated. Because they survive by bamboozling or bamboobling people and generally just making youtube a more irritating place to try to browse for actual content.

Just like the users who copy people's videos to steal their views, not to preserve the video that keeps getting taken down........worthless. Hell if they just translated a video in a low cut top, they'd actually be adding something.

* People who get so worked up over these videos need to look at themselves. Why did they click on the video? Because they thought it was cheap titillation, was it? Yup, so why are they so worked up? Did they really expect a well reasoned reply video based on the thumbnail? Or are they just pissed that they didn't get as sexy a video as they thought? If that's the case, come on, there's a lot of free porn on the web.

* Her getting so down and depressed that her views dropped markedly "What will I do now?" is something that's very hard to feel bad about. Sure, she's making money by making content less videos, which doesn't really hurt anyone, but I'm not going to feel sorry for you that you can no longer make money by doing nothing productive. Boo hoo.

These videos have never bothered me, I never watch reply videos in the first place, I've seen those thumbnails, thought they were pretty pathetic, and that was that. How people can get in such a lather about them is scary.

I'm pretty anti-marketing... I appreciate clever marketing of a decent product, and I loathe clever marketing for a shit product. It seriously enrages me and I think a lot of the people who do that type of marketing are just taking advantadge of other people. This chick is 100% marketing... it's all about the screenshot of the boobs, there is no product and engaging with her for 10 seconds is a criminally bad use of your time. I personally clicked on the video for the first time because I was curious about all the "reply" videos I was seeing... then I ended up watching about five of this chick's videos and decided she was the lamest cunt on YT.

EDIT: She might not bother me so much if not for that accent and tone of voice. I'm sorry if you share that accent, but it is just stupid sounding. It sounds like a bad Dracula impression. And then her voice and cadence make it sound like she's deliberately taking the piss.
