Moment of truth on msnbc - Take money out of politics OWS

In a conversation with a show panel about the country's debt and credit downgrade, MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan passionately calls both the Democratic and Republican economic plans, "reckless, irresponsible and stupid."

Very good message, if there was one demand from OWS, I think that should be it.

Also, as much as I love the Inception soundtrack, getting sick of it being stuck on any video. It's getting to be like fucking Blur's Song 2...

transparency and money out of politics

in the day and age of the internet, do you really need $750,000,000 to run for government? and can you trust anyone that raises that much money in the first place? at best their good intentions get stalled, at worst they never had good intentions in the first place

for that amount of money, the infrastructure could be setup and maintained (for AWHILE) so that anyone who wanted to run could have an open forum and voters could have access to information regarding the candidates history, viewpoints and accomplishments

whose government is it when projections for campaign finance for the upcoming election are nearing (if not breaking) $1,000,000,000?

Campaign finance reform. All you guys need is your president and congress, which both derive their career and governmental authority from it to actively vote to curb it. Good luck guys!

Unnecessary dramatic music aside, THIS is and should be the #1 focus with OWS. This country is being purposely torn apart through much of the media, leading the true victims into bickering and fighting with each other over your supposed "political beliefs" as the wealthy just sit back and laugh all the way to these corrupt banks. It sickens me to see what our government has become.

The version linked to by @IronDwarf includes the comments made by the other guests who ask the question: "What would you have the president do?"

The answer, in a nutshell, is that the president should begin punching bankers in the face.

I disagree, perhaps your thinking is along the lines of "If we can accomplish one thing, this should be it." I think its a completely noble and ethical goal, and will make things better, but this measure alone is not enough.

I think many of the people on the streets are there for a lot more than this, money out of politics is a given, but what about electoral reform, national financial reform, and a general sense of discussion and debate about direction and goals of the nation, aka the common good.

A lot of people laugh when you use Star Trek as an example, but at this point in civilization's history, considering population and ecological stresses, I like to imagine that the enterprise would intervene, break the prime directive and give us a good talking to.

At this point in time, its way past due that we move the discussion about common good, and expand the range of our empathic sensibilities to a global level. Now, if I can claim that I've made a point with this rant, it would be that when the people take to the streets in a beautiful unfolding of common, peaceful democratic expression, the last thing we should do is narrow that movement to a sliver of its potential, put blinders on, and ask for less than we are capable of. Less than we now realize what we deserve.

When people realize that political organization is fun, empowering, and deeply meaningful, they will realize just how politically dormant our democratic discussions have been. There is plenty more to say, lets not arrest the discussion prematurely. (no pun intended)

Dylan Ratigan Rant Over Political and Economic System Designed to “Extract America”
Ok, so even during a pants shitting rant, the Federal Reserve system should not be mentioned. Isn’t that interesting?

Yes, politicians are corrupt. Thank you, Captain Obvious, but what makes it possible to “Extract America,” by the tens of trillions of dollars?
How about asking why there are trillions of dollars in the first place? That would lead to the real core of this, which is the fact that, by design, the Federal Reserve system makes it impossible for the U.S. to get out of debt. The goal of the ritual is to make the victim believe that the way out of the hole is to dig the hole deeper.

Thank you good sir!
I stopped watching the video around 50 seconds because it ruined the message. This is not a movie trailer god damn it! I don't need extra drama; there's already enough emotion in this man message. I and many of my friends are thinking about throwing away our vote this year because not a single politician presents us today

I hope the OWS people put up a sign that says "Obama, we're not voting for you!" because I think he's trying to hijack them.

Seems to fit:

“Once a nation parts with the control of its currency and credit, it matters not who makes that nation's laws. Usury, once in control, will wreck any nation. Until the control of the issue of currency and credit is restored to government and recognized as its most conspicuous and sacred responsibility, all talk of the sovereignty of Parliament and of democracy is idle and futile.”

-William Lyon Mackenzie King, former Prime Minister of Canada.

Winstonfield_Pennypackersays...

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship"

This is the inevitable future. The federal government is not going to self-correct. It will simply keep coming up with scam after scheme for as long as it is abetted by voters who refuse to hold the politicians responsible for thier decisions. The problem is not Wall Street. It is a corrupt political system which panders to a variety of corrupt audiences. Really, the OWS guys should be joining the Tea Party if they really want to accomplish something positive. Sadly, the OWS crowd has been coopted by so many fringe kook groups that it is no more than a clown car at this point.
