theronpokersays...great spundtrack. Anyone know who it is?
Raytracesays...frighteningly beautiful...
pallensays...Before anyone beats me to it... Looking at the footage, I don't think the helicopter is actually what sets off those charges, I think it's just flying around to film the event. My guess is that those charges were already planted. Still pretty cool though.
Wumpussays...In a lot of avalanche prone areas, they will often use old artillery cannons to launch explosive shells to induce avalanches.
pmkierstsays...Very poetic and nice. Mind you, I have to agree, unless those explosions were helicopters immolating themselves, the title is wrong ...
CrushBugsays...The also would not be firing off cannons with a helicopter in the area.
The 'chopper certainly could be dropping timed charges, or just remote detonating them during its fly-by.
callistansays...Not sure who the first track is by, but the second track is called Sofa Rockers by the Sofa Surfers. It's on Kruder and Dorfmeister's "K & D Sessions," which is a pretty fantastic double cd album (about 10 years old).
bellmansays...Ugh -- I HATE the annoying music. I wish they would turn it off and let us here the awesome power of the avalanche.
callistansays...Haha, tell us what you really think, bellman.
bigbikemansays...pallen : Nope. The helicopter is likely dropping explosives on a timer. This is a common practice.
The only other way for the explosives to get there are for people to plant them on foot or snowmobile. Given that the snowpack is known to be unstable (that's why they're blowing it), you wouldn't want to be anywhere near it. Merely cutting a track across those snowfields---like the first one in particular---could trigger it and it's simply not worth the risk.
pallensays...Changed the title for the sake of accuracy. My original title was "Helicopter Induces an Avalanche - Awesome Footage", but it's obviously the explosive charges that actually induce it. The helicopter's role is unclear.
Baquetasays...theronpoker: [edit] Listen to Pragmatick, he knows what he's on about...
Pallen: Thanks for one of the very few videos I've seen on here that genuinely merited the word 'awesome' in the title.
pragmaticksays...The first song is called "Dunya Salam" by "Baaba Maal".
It can be found on an album called "One giant leep", 30 second sample can be found here: http://calabashmusic.com/world/publisher/flashPlayer/action/view?playerAction=loadSample&sampleID=12698
The second track is Sofa Surfers - Tranquility (Kruder & Dorfmeister Remix) and is also known as "Sofa Rockers".
phelixiansays...we need the eiger guys to team up and speed glide over avalanches. i'd chip in $20 to see it.
pallensays..."we need the eiger guys to team up and speed glide over avalanches. i'd chip in $20 to see it."
Can the music for that video be Canon in D? That would make it vote-tastic.
rembarsays..."Can the music for that video be Canon in D? That would make it vote-tastic."
Only if it's played on a ukelele. By a kitten. That's jumping from a tree. While falling asleep.
Kruposays...I'm glad everyone's catching onto the formula for Sift Gold.
And then you have us, suffering with not enough slow - we need some redistribution. Although perhaps not as violently.
