Mac users MUST use hands to communicate!

This is a compilation from maddox ('the best page in the universe' acclaim) to show us that Mac users must use hand signals while explaining anything.

It also shows the target audience Steve Jobs is after here; so sad.

I love flame bait. Upvote. Just remember that most of the music you listen to and movies you watch were cut on a mac. Of course you are only limited to playing video games made by Blizzard, but that's why God made consoles, am I right people?

The funny part is that I hold no real grudge against Apple gear. I just think the commercials are horrible, half of them being specious towards pc users.

I just think this video/compilation shows how moronic some commercials are--when they take themselves too seriously.

All you upvoters are dead to me.

They're not dead, you need to turn on the monitor to track vitals. Look for a big button on the front that says "power". You mac people sheesh...

Might need the riot gear soon--once the sun rises, it brings them! Aim for their Khakis or the leather laptop carrier! If you can read this then you either copy and pasted somwhere or your screen is 70 inches!

Mac vs. PC or really Mac vs. Windows, is less like it used to be. They run on compatible hardware now, and Macs have a Unix-based OS complete with the ability to use a shell prompt.

Back in the good old days, Macs ran on completely different architecture, had no command line available, and no hardware could work on both, except really expensive printers.

Times are quite different now. I could load OS X on my PC, or Vista on a Mac. My USB devices will work on both, provided there are drivers for both OS's, and when we talk about CPU's, it's easy to do an Apple-to-Everything else comparison because it's all Intel now.

But Mac users do seem to talk with their hands a lot.

oxdottirsays...

I love my mac. More than half the time it's up in bootcamp running XP, but my mac is the best PC I've ever had (and time machine backs it all up for me, too). (I use, surprise surprise, educational software that is only available on the PC, and a plugin for powerpoint that only works for normal powerpoint and not mac powerpoint.)

I mostly wanted to comment to say I could use appreciation for Maddox as a filter for people I actually want to ever speak to (appreciates maddox==we probably shouldn't talk much). This post made me go look through his egotistical ravings, and I want my time back. I suspect that reaction would fill him with glee, since I am clearly in the set of people he wants nothing to do with either. So we are both happy.

What a dumb piece of shit you are. You're telling me Yo-Yo Ma is a loser because he's in a Mac commercial? Shithead. Go back in time and give you mother an abortion.

"We often assume that true understanding is conveyed through spoken speech rather than gesture, but new research shows that "talking with your hands" can not only reveal different information than spoken language, it can be both more correct and yield better learning.

Goldin-Meadow and colleagues have previously shown that spontaneous gesture during speech contains a form of implicit knowledge - knowledge that cannot be verbally reported, but nonetheless affects performance."

With almost all the Apple advertising, I always got the impression that if you do manage to use Windows successfully and are productive with it then you are WAY smarter than the Apple users that need hand holding and dumbed-down interfaces.

steroidgsays...

Just from personal experience. I work in IT support for a research organisation, and we have 3 types of people who uses Mac.

- Researchers who needs a Mac for technical reasons and are good at solving problems. (10%)
- Pople fed up with Windows's crap but not skill enough to use a Unix (Linux) machine. (50%)
- To show off their expansive machine because they are managers and have ego deficiency problem. (40%)

Learn when people aren't being serious, or get the hell off mah internetz.

Also, for the record, I know they're not mah internetz. I wasn't being serious there.

just in case you wanted to quote me too.

I'd be happy to upvote and pour gasoline on the flamewar, but the commercial kind of fails at its premise. The amount of gesturing being used here isn't abnormal. Most people, including very good speakers, use their hands to help convey information.

Deanosays...

Well that last guy was a moron

I'm still with Windows laptops simply because of habit, compatibility with colleagues/clients and cost. Cost is a big one. Still, I use my hands alot when I talk.

so what you're saying is...if you like macs, you have a mac but if you like PCs, you have a PC...hmmm very interesting and totally worth argument.

The whole thing is just tribalism born in the 80s...yea, remember the 80s?

-"Of the 235 million people in America, only a fraction can use a computer... Introducing Macintosh. For the rest of us."

Jesus f'n Christ you mac idiots! He's making fun of friggin COMMERCIALS! What if the article was Pepsi-Drinkers can't talk without moving their hands, would you be all pissed off because you're a Pepsi drinker?

For the love of all that is good and holy in the world. You people do more damage to your own reputations by sounding so incredibly defensive than all the PC lovers out there in the world could do.

There.. rant over. As you were.

Upvote... in fact, I want to create five new user accounts just to upvote this one video five more times.

Since when do any of you care if people think you're quirky for using a goddamn mac? Christ.

AeroMechanicalsays...

I think most of the arguments are silly. A computer is a tool, not a way of life. Use the right tool for the right job.

My only objection to Apple is that they tie their products to each other, both hardware and software, which if they were in a position to have a dominant market share and thus a lock-in would be a disaster and an unacceptable monopoly. The problem is that this is their greatest strength as it ensures relatively trouble-free compatibility. That is quite a dilemma.

Mac is for Hipsters. I usually hold a pretty low view of hipsters myself...so it all works out in the end.

PS - I don't use an I-Pod either...cuz I ain't paying for a brandname.

I thought I'd comment about this extremely old video, in reflection. It's funny how many devices around me and others I know have changed dramatically. The PC AND the MAC are no longer near "the top" or need to be near the top (granted, Windows is still the platform to beat for personal PC's, but when it comes to mobile platforms...something that BARELY registered back when we were throwing insults around when this video was shown, it's amazing; and now it IS the thing to beat). Now it is all about Android, Apple, or Windows, with a few secondary OS "foundations" (sometimes with hardware) thrown in for fun.

I have one of everything now. My phone an Android, my tablet an Apple, and my PC Windows. Though I still have the one major gripe about Windows and Apple as I did back then; for Apple it is it's need to make self-related products that "you need" to make anything work--much like Nintendo's business model. Microsoft is extremely "information grabby" and they love to lock you down into a certain setup, depending on how you buy or bought your computer (for instance, if you put it together yourself, you can get away from most of these issues--which is what I do; but, most people don't have this luxury). To be honest, I find my Android run devices (my cellphone and my Roku--and as I go forward I imagine a few more will go down that road) to be the best of both worlds, and they typically get along with "both worlds" the most.

Not that Android doesn't have it's own (the Borg) problems, especially as we move into the future. But, as these posts show us, within five years something just like Android (Google) can become a powerhouse that has to be reckoned with. I can't wait.

I still hate Macs!
