gorillamansays...article
Basically this is a new way to make people even more anal about getting their handouts back.
lucky760says...Very cool. I wonder how it holds up after writing on it with various implements.

Great idea.
Ekleksays...Neat..I wonder how this solution compares to the use of electronic paper..probably it uses less energy at e.g. a one day conference than epaper?
People should and will also be more careful with their prints:)
dgandhisays...cute, but it has hobbling disadvantages compared to either paper or an e-reader
The only thing you can do with this is:
print something to read, which you will not mark, and do not want to keep.
The only niche which seems to exist for such a technology is for printing novels/manuals, which are much cheaper/easier to mass produce and use on paper.

The paper is over $3 a sheet + a $5500 printer? Ouch. Good luck justifying that to the office budget.
Bring the price down and then I can see this as being used more often. Usually at work paper is a non-issue since it is factored into budgets and lab fees, but the supplies are the tricky part depending on how much usage there is. $1000-$500 laser printers with $150 high yield toners that last 3 months to a year are still more economical.
I don't mean to poo-poo the tech, I think its pretty cool... just I try to look at the usefulness
mxxconsays...i can see "paper" (which looks more like plastic) being expensive, but printer should be relatively cheap, much cheaper than $5k.
isn't it just a row of heating "pins" that heat up parts of the page to turn dark?
spoco2says...Fascinating tech, but as mentioned, it does not fulfill the major need I have when I want to print something (other than printing photos for framing), which is printing something to mark up with a pen.
