Drachen_Jagersays...Move along, nothing to see here. Global warming is a myth. Get back in your SUVs and go to the mall. Only your continued consumerism can save the economy.
articianjokingly says...You could still outrun that.
deathcowsays...This is * terrible! I mean, who gave that the green light!
EMPIREsays...No green light needed. Just greens to burn.

When I was in Australia visiting Fraser Island, I was told they would deliberately set controlled fires in the woods so as to reduce the incidence of the more dangerous wildfires.
grintersays...Answer: like wildfire!
Crosswordssays...There's a thick smoke band off to the west of where I am. If I didn't know it was from a big fire I'd have just thought it was really overcast to the west; well that and its hazier and browner than clouds would be.
Seriously though I've lived here for 30+ years and I've never seen it this dry or hot. The last time we got rain in any real quantity was February, we've had a few showers since then but nothing that didn't dry up completely by the next day. I think we're something like 21 inches below normal for the yea so far. That and its been insanely hot since may. In August, where I am, we had 1 day that didn't hit 100+. Thankfully a cool front has come through, though the winds and drier air only serve to fuel the fires. But at least the firefighters are less likely to die of heat exhaustion when its 89 out and not 104.
Bruti79says...This fast?

bmacs27says...Yea, it's been scary around here. The other day we were out in the park admiring the sunset... then we realized the sun doesn't set in the east. On the plus side it smells like a big campfire all the time.
rychansays...The Pine trees are loving it. Seriously.
bcglorfsays...Growing up on a farm I'd call that relatively slow for a dry and windy day. When we'd burn off stubble in fields the fire could really spread as fast as you could run. That was of course a grass fire, not trees and bushes, but still scary, scary fast if it wasn't in a well controlled environment.
