YT: Superman is the hero that every kid looked up to, until Man of Steel made him into a mopey violent a-hole. But hey, at least "he's kinda hot!"
EvilDeathBeesays...

Funny video, but jeez, so many butt-hurt fanboys over this movie. I thought Man of Steel was awesome. Had a few problems, but overall a great super hero movie.

"So, if you loved the Christopher Reeve era superhero movie..."
I'm gonna stop you right there, this ISN'T the Richard Donner movie and it's not intending to be. Get over the past.

I thought Man of Steel was okay. Fun, popcorn flick. I also don't get the people being upset over Superman killing Zod... He killed Zod in the second Donner movie too, and then laughed about it, at least he was tormented this time.

VoodooVsays...

meh. They've played up the whole "Superman is light, Batman is dark" mentality for too long, so I think that's why a bunch of people are butt-hurt about the darker tone of this movie.

Sure, I agree the whole ending with Zod was rather.....dumb and the movie was just excessively long, but overall it was a kickass movie and I'm sorry, but people need to face it, Nolan's touch is working.

The concept of superheroes is rather dated, And Superman is the least interesting superhero other than his origin story, so I appreciate trying to update them and make them darker and at least attempt to make them more realistic.

that and Faora is super hot.

I want to see Superman controlled by Lex Luthar and Brainiac to do the bidding of a now corrupt USA, and then to finally grow a pair and team up with Bruce Wayne's superhero revolution after he sacrifices his wealth to go underground.

In my mind this is the most relevant tale of these 2 super heroes. Especially when our leaders are all Lex Luthars outsourcing to Brainiacs. Superman would not fight for the American way because the American way is dead.

There would be a new way. And justice would no longer be based on income.

Sooo... your saying this is the Superman we deserve, not the one we need?

Fuck off haters. Saw this movie twice in theatres and loved it. Saw it for third time yesterday on blu-ray and LOVED IT. I say this as a guy with more than one full comics box devoted entirely to Superman.

MilkmanDansays...

I had low expectations (dunno why exactly), but I liked the movie quite a bit. I know very little about the comic book Superman, only stuff I've picked up from other sources -- so I don't know if or how extensive any backstory alterations were.

One thing that I've always thought about Superman is that it sure seems like it would be more likely that an "alien" in his situation would turn out pretty evil; absolute power corrupting absolutely and that sort of thing. I thought this movie did a better job than the (limited) other versions that I've seen of having him face down those temptations.

The deviation from source was actually quite minimal. All the big elements of the mythos used in the movie are drawn from established canon. The major problem most people have is Superman snapping Zod's neck at the end when Zod was demonstrating his intent to kill every human on earth with his newfound powers. I'm not a big fan of the writing putting Superman into a corner like that, but it does represent a lesson learned and a starting point for the character to grow from. He was clearly anguished by being forced to take deadly action. This is a contrast to the Chris Reeve Superman who first arrived in Metropolis and revealed himself to the world as a fully formed superhero with full mastery of his powers.... who killed a *de-powered* Zod and the other Kryptonians at the end of Superman II by tossing them down a frozen chasm, then laughed about it.
