eric3579says...I think they were extremely kind to this movie. Outside of the visual aspect of the movie it was pretty much shit (acting,story,dialogue...). Of course I'm one of the very few that has this opinion. Maybe i'm just getting old and grumpy. GET OFF MY LAWN!
Barsepssays...To put it (hopefully) into perspective here dude........... "Gravity" = "2001, A Space Odyssey" + love interest

PlayhousePalssays...My sister would wholeheartedly agree ... I haven't seen it. "Guess we won't be going to Mars anytime soon."

LooiXIVsays...Don't worry I totally agree. They tried a bunch of stuff cliche symbolism, character growth, but it didn't really mesh up with the plot of the movie. She was suicidal, but finds the will to go on through a space hallucination/talking with some rando Korean (dafuq)? What I gathered from the movie is that we shouldn't try and explore space since "gravity" will pull us back. We should just stay down on earth (since that's what Sandra Bullock spends the entire movie trying to get back to). But then they had George Clooney ask Sandra Bullock to enjoy the scenery, which she never does, which is a confusing message. I guess he was trying to say all the beauty we know is on Earth. This movie tried so so hard to be a "classic" space movie that dove into humanity, blah blah blah, bs bs bs. If anything this is a very anti space exploration movie.
Compare that to the rich symbolism of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Which juxtaposes the beginnings of humanity with where it is now, and asks what is the limit of humanity? Are we confined to Earth? It was really a movie of rebirth and redefining what humanity is and what we're capable of. Also the main character was a bad ass. Not only did he out smart the homicidal computer (which killed everyone except him). He continued his mission!
2001 and Gravity couldn't be more different.

ChaosEnginesays...Gravity was a very good disney ride. Honestly, if they'd just been honest, ditched Sandra Bullocks annoying attempt at acting and installed some seats on gimbals, it would have bee the best damn 90 minutes ever.
And if it was meant to put people off going to space, it failed miserably. I walked out of the cinema, turned to my friend and we both said "SPPPPPPAAAAACCE! Wanna go to space! Spaaaaaaace!"
VoodooVsays...What I don't get is that they keep lauding Sandra for playing this strong female role, but I thought she was portrayed as this meek little girl that barely escaped by sheer luck and was on the verge of giving up at every step and needed to hallucinate about the big strong strapping manstronaut helping her get through it.
I just don't get it..in no way was she a badass in this movie I thought.
Deanosays...I've no idea where the hype for this film came from. It's pretty shallow and unengaging.
I assumed it was going to be either strong on symbolism or heavy on space procedures but in the end it's not much of anything.
Take away the visuals and you wonder why the film was even made. It's just a really quick survival film and I could name half a dozen films that are much better in the genre.
eric3579says...Nailed it!

A10anissays...It came across as an education vid for students of CGI; "These are the effects we can accomplish now kids."
The film as a film? Ludicrous plot. Inane dialogue and pretty dire acting -I kept expecting gorgeous George to fill in the holes with a coffee advert. 9/10 for effects. 0/10 for everything else.
Thumpersays...Wow, couldn't disagree more with everyone's opinion in here. It was a great movie. I'm happy they took your money.
MilkmanDansays...(some spoilers here, although not really anything that wasn't in the video)
I thought it was quite good. Not great, but quite good.
That being said, the one thing that I was sure that an "honest trailers" spoof/take on it would include was left out: I lost count of how many times the last propulsive jet before they ran out of thrust in whatever system/mechanism they were using was just enough to get them into "precarious grab, slip and bump off into another precarious grab".
Gorgeous George jets around as carefree as can be -- fetching bolts, unhitched and drifting Sandra ... even the corpse of "man down in the first 5 minutes". He or others talk about how he is going for the record longest spacewalk many times. But then, when they really need it, "oh, sorry, I've just got enough juice left for one more burn".
Same thing repeats for the Soyuz, the Wall-E extinguisher, and conceptually in many other instances.
That is the aspect of the flick that stood out the most for me as begging for a good send-up.
Paybacksays...What bugged me the most about the movie is knowing you can't get to the other stations like she does. Those things are hundreds (thousands?) of miles apart at any one point in their orbits. They made it look like going next door for a cup of sugar.
Once she had the Clooneycination, I thought we were going to find out her getting back down to Earth was the same, and she died, spinning off into the void like Darth Vader was supposed to.
EvilDeathBeesays...Jesus, so many Negative Nellys here. Can't a movie be fun without it trying to be deep or full of symbolism? Some movies can be simple, straight forward and be a hell of a ride.
The internet has given way for every man and his dog to try and be film critics.
chingalerasays...I for one enjoyed the film, as whats-his-fuck-all disappears into outer space in the first half hour and we get to float around low-orbit all alone with Sandra Bullock for the rest of the ride Gonna watch it again before bed!!
arghnesssays...Watch Brazil and/or Repo Men for that. Maybe Total Recall too, but that's less explicit.
Oh man, the spoilers, the spoilers!
