Geographical Evolution of the Five Great Religions

choggiesays...

Told ya, this will most likely get most votes, from those who are discovering this for the first time....as in,

"Everyone who went to public schools in the U.S. after 1950!!"

great video.

in mild criticism,it does seem a little simplistic. these huge expanses of colour with no mixing between them gives the viewer the idea that being in one region you would have no access to other religions. that said a very simple way of grasping a broad picture of our worlds religious development.

True michie - although the video subtly hints at that with the Jewish diaspora part: if you know what the term means, you know there's a 1 to 5% spread of Judaism all around that doesn't get displayed; hopefully viewers are smart enought to know maps like these aren't homogenous representations.

Yes I think quite a bit of artistic liberty has to be taken but the concept is enjoyable. For all I know its relatively believable. The jewish sectors I guess would be too small to perceive or look like flickering color noise. I'd prefer this at 1920x1200 on a HDTV Plasma with forward/backward stepping controls set to 1/10 or 100 year granularity, and the ability to show other data overlaid as different textures or colors. Say, average participant IQ ranges or income levels etc. Make it so and have it to me by Wednesday noon at the latest.

In addition to Deathcow's instructions, please add color coding to various sects and subsects of religous orders, compute in primative and pagan religions, any and all data should be historically backed up with informational records going back 4000 years in triplicate and all 27 languages of the E.U.

Well, one sticking point is that it's the Hebrew year 5767.

5767 - 2007 = 3760.

The video claims that Hinduiusm started at 3000BC and Judaism at 2000BC. If Judaism is as old as the Hebrew calendar, then Judaism is 760 years older than Hinduism.

The peninsula of Korea shouldn't be considered all Buddhist. Since world war II, the number of Christians in South Korea have soared dramatically.

But I guess you can say the same about California and number of religions they have there.

Nebosukesays...

So what movie / tv show was this clip from that it got removed from the Tuber? I'd still like to go find it somewhere.

And does anyone have a similar video describing the evolution of language from the major roots? I remember seeing a pretty picture that did a good job of showing the movement way back when in Time magazine.
