demon_ixsays...Next - Roomba with a B.Sc.!
siftbotsays...Moving this video to ltbishop341b's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.
kronosposeidonsays...It's not really science fiction, because it's science fact. Therefore *nochannel *science *engineering *brain *future

Adding video to channels (Brain, Engineering, Future, Science) - requested by kronosposeidon.
chilaxesays...I recommend the Roomba with the Ph.D. in philosophy. It does a much more systematic job, while being careful to avoid errors in reasoning.

Nah, a roomba with a Ph.D. in philosophy would simply sit there pondering the implications and purpose of cleanliness.
ponceleonsays...*promote
and no, the roomba with the PhD in Philosophy would instinctively roll over to the unemployment line.

LordOderussays...If the brain is controlling the robots actions, where is the brain getting its sensory input? Do they have a camera or something hard wired into the brain so it can "see"? If so, that would be a huge leap forward in the medical field. Or are the rats eyes still connected to the brain and still functioning? The robot is definitely getting input on its surroundings from somewhere, since it doesn't bump into anything really. If the robot has some sort of collision detection system (like in many toy robots) then the brain isn't really complete control.
Maybe I'm just being to skeptical, if this is in real and the facts are as stated in the video, this is pretty amazing stuff.
Wingoguysays...Not convinced this is real..can someone include a link to a credible source?
KamikazeCricketsays...Yeah, something makes me doubt that some dudes would make this in their garage lab, and then put it on the internet before going to major news outlets. A cyborg robot is not something to just make a youtube video with...
ltbishop341bsays...http://io9.com/5288834/first-real-cyborg-a-robot-controlled-by-a-living-brain is where i found the video
Raaaghsays...Ive seen this type of stuff before, but I dont remember it moving so well. From what I understand, its not a transplanted, fully functioning brain as such - I believe its just a section of the brain that has nav "auto-response". Though i dont understand how it learns what a collision is, or how propulsion is even happening without its original sensory system.
TheFreaksays...I'm struck by the organic manner in which the robot navigates it's environment.
Am I the only one who imagines a tiny rat voice screaming in horror as that robot runs around the lab?
dooglesays...I for one welcome our rat-brain-section-roomba-running overlords.
