Craig Ferguson's Banned Dr Who Cold Open

For 2 days Craig and the gang have been rehearsing this cold open, but 5 minutes before air time the producers couldn't get permission to use the Dr Who theme. But thanks to the Internet and YouTube we can now witness Craig Feguson's Dro Who Cold Open as they originally intended it to air.
EDIT: For those who wish to see how it eventually aired: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4RjvfOrCoU

The older ones were a bit campy. The new Dr Who's aren't silly but really good sci-fi, especially the David Tennant ones... and toss in a Steven Moffat script and you get some of the best TV out there...

Got to *promote this one as well. Shame they weren't able to get it on the air. I have to wonder if they get in equal trouble for letting it leak... and seriously Matt Smith is going on to promote his show, why couldn't they get the theme?

I've not really seen episodes of Dr. Who. But from the clips I have seen, it seems silly. I don't get the rabid fascination people have with it.

I can't help but be amused whenever people say something equivalent to "I don't know anything/I know very little about subject X, but I don't get it/think it's silly/whatever anyway."

so if i understand you correctly, brknphoenix, what you're saying is that you have to actually RAPE SOMEONE to know whether or not it's wrong to be a RAPIST? wow, man. wow. you really got issues.

(please don't ban me)

I watched "City of death" on Netflix last week. As Dr. Who's go, it was pretty good. But really i've outgrown the tv show as it's just slow and lacking sophistication. It happens.

If I'm wanting to watch "district 9", Dr. who is "battle for terra"

I've only watched since the relaunch in 2005, so I can't speak to the older episodes, but you're not entirely wrong. It's very lighthearted most of the time and the 'science' part of scifi is downplayed most of the time. You won't find detailed explanations of the technology or, in many cases, any explanations.

I think the biggest draw is the focus on cleverness. The Doctor operates like Sherlock Holmes and the way a show's mysteries get tied together at the end is often very interesting.

Every time the Doctor regenerates (ie: the role is taken over by a new actor) I think I'm going to hate the new one and so far I've been wrong every time. It's refreshing that the show has a built-in way to go in a new direction without shattering the fiction. David Tennant and especially Matt Smith were/are both great at being somewhat silly characters who periodically become remarkably bad-ass with a few well delivered lines.

I recommend Vincent and The Doctor as, probably, my favorite episode from the most recent season. "Blink" from a few seasons back was much loved for its very creative new villain, but I can't find a working copy online.

I was actually in the same boat.

This is literally how I got into doctor who:

I had a friend over and we crashed on my couches in my family room and left the t.v. going (We were watching something on the space channel, probably one of the star treks or something else equally nerdy).

When I came to there was something just starting but I had -no- idea what it was. With the production values I actually figured it was a movie and got kinda into it, my friend woke up a bit later and did, too.

The entire time I was thinking "This is Doctor Who? I always thought it was really cheesy and odd" but to my surprise it was.

I wound up watching the rest of the season and thoroughly enjoying it (Like previously stated, its mostly about how he cleverly gets out of situations, and the witty one-liners.)

I actually went back and tried watching the David Tennant episodes, but they never really clicked with me.. Whereas Matt Smith has a sort of schoolboy charm to him, David Tennant always seemed to just be more quirky.

In any case.. only 19 more days until the new season! huzzah!
