This reminds me of those evolution computer programs where they give the system some basic rules and a bunch of parts and after simulating a thousand generations it comes up with something that moves like a fish out of water with a giant, flailing leg mounted on its head.

I have a cat that does something similar. I will turn the faucet on so a trickle is coming out and she will drink from the water stream. Of course when she sees the water going down the drain she gets distracted and tries to figure out what's happening.
