JiggaJonsonsays...It seems totally possible that it's being rendered in reatime. The gaming industry has pushed the hardware envelope so fast in this regard that the hardware probably wouldn't even be that expensive to render something like this. I'm thinking two 6990's in crossfire mode? Probably even less required though, depending on the framerate and the cost to record video simultaneously.

Cinema 4D used to have an absolutely terrible physics engine (last time I tried to use it was in version 8.5 I think), even basic objects got stuck together or glitched through the floor. Good to see it's a little less crappy now.

Croccydilesays...If not realtime, would not put it past having acceleration using a GPU with todays hardware.
When nVidia put out the first physX for GPUs there was a realtime softbody demo, slow... but proved the principle on now 4 year old hardware.
