So apart from the odd resignation, why are these people never arrested and put on trial for what they do? Why are they immune to the law? Why have they been immune to the law for centuries?

And I can't believe this is a Catholic exclusive problem. Or is it? You don't hear much about abuse from other religious social workers (whatever you call them.. priests, rabbis, vicars). Why's that?

Some of the Irish Bishops who presided over this stuff tried to resign, and the pope wouldnt let them!

Its not a catholic exclusive problem, its about the same rate as other religions (according to CBS, C4 news etc. before someone says prove it), the difference is the conspiracy to cover up. Most other religions dont have a support structure to keep them from getting caught, and to protect those that did.

Those who got caught 40 or 50 years ago, got sent off to missions in the 3rd world as "punishment". One can only imagine (or try not to) what went on in those places where there were even fewer protections in place for children.

Well, humans have not evolved to be celibate creatures. The Catholic Church, and most other major religions for that matter, are profoundly messed up in this matter. They regard sex as something to be tolerated for the purposes of procreation. A necessary evil. I don't know how or why they arrived at this ridiculous position, but at least most other religions allow their ministers to marry.

If you go looking for a group of people who are willing subjugate their normal human desires, it's not hard to believe that you will find some deeply disturbed psyches in that group. Apply it to a large enough group (over 400,000 priests according to wikipedia) and you're bound to find some individuals who will cross the line.

Oh and don't forget all the spinoff Christians. Take out the governments of Myanmar, China and North Korea too. Wipe out the "leadership" of the GOP and the Tea Party.

That would deal with many of the world's problems.

The vatican has, as this video shows, and any fair investigation would show, and any rational person should see at this point, been systematically protecting child rapists, so no, "the vatican" is not a child molesting priest (impossible, since its not an actual person) but its an institution who willingly and knowingly, and systematically protects and aid them. And "the Vatican" or "The Catholic Church" is different from the word "Catholics", as I would never say Catholics in general help priests abuse children or accuse them of any other collective crime..

In exactly the same sense, "Jews" are not a state or an organization, its a word to describe people with a religious/cultural background, so to speak of "the jews" as if it was one entity with common blame is something I thought belonged to another, darker era tbh. When you say "the Jews" you include people like Jerry Seinfeld and Noam Chomsky, and what the fuck did they do against palestinians? Besides, there are just as many, if not far more, Christian supporters of Israel, and what about them? So if you want, you could say "Israel and its supporters" and maybe even stretch it to Judaism or zionism, but not to Jews in general.
