Awesome musicians. a "Hang Drum" creates an AMAZING sound

The "Hang Drum" is quite young by instrument standards...it was created somewhere around 2000. This Drum is not your typical bongo, nor is it a regular steel drum...with a pan like top and bottom, the Hang Drum resembles a flying saucer. Yet, however alien the Hang drum seems, once the drum is played one wishes to embrace it's strange essence.

...petrouly stinking...

Patchouli. Hippies stink like patchouli. I'd probably put up with it for a chance to try out that drum. I'm sure you'd build up thumbs of steel after practicing with it for a few weeks.

I think a musician who is offended by an entertaining improvisation on a new instrument such as this, has a long way to come as a musician. Speeds up and down a lot? The guy's just jamming and having fun for godssake. His time at the end with the other guy is fine btw.

Sounds like a one-man hippy gamelan orchestra.....and leave it to his roommate's roommate, Chip Teeth, to play a goddamn Jew's harp with the thing. Chip Teeth and Needs a bath can be seen down in front of the Starbucks in Portland Oregon, busking for caffeine.Oh, and you can buy their cd's they burned of their last session, called, Kind Bud Awakening.

Wow...and I've been accused of being negative. I guess if it's not left-wing propaganda, it's no good.

I agree with acl. Any "budding" musicain should have an opened mind lest ye whither and die from lack of inspiration. Timing is something that's learned OVER time. It requires practice, muscle training and feeling, which I wouldn't necessarily expect even a "budding" musicain.

hey rotty.....yer righteous enough regarding that comment from kingsblood......would have no problem m'self experimenting with this drum....
The hippy factor does, however, belittle the expose' for some.....as a stand alone instrument, it may be perfect for the ears for some, a great meditation tool for others....for me, to hear it with the Jew's harp, or a goddamn digeridoo, like so many wannabe nature-boys love to adopt, to call themselves musicians, or enthusiasts, or experts on aboriginal culture, or as a pretentious affectation to accompany their little idyllic lifestyles in the land of misery, near the valley of suffering (pacific northwest).....IS retarded. Have known so many folks, so many "musicians"....this guy reminds me of the deadest of the dead-heads.....this viddy, "Morning of parihaka Peace festival. Early morning jam sesion"(hippies can't spell)......The Parihikan attendees??? Such good intentions....http://www.parihaka.com/Festival/2007/Festival.aspx

All I can see is a buncha anti-depressants, peace-at-all-costs, symbol addicts, getting together to share in a few days of B-O and wheat-grass trots.......

BAAHAHHAHHAHHAA!!!!

I like how at the end they incorporated the sound of a truck driving by. That was the highlight for me. He needs to learn a different song. I kept waiting and waiting for him to get his groove on, only to find out that was his groove.
