Another WTC Video - Amazing Vantage Point of Cloud Spread

bnsasays...

*blog

I'm envoking my power not because it's a bad video, but out of respect to the lives lost and because there is death involved which violates VS rules. This is still too sensitive to watch being only two days after 9/11. Sorry. I hope you understand and the rest of the VS community agrees.

*/edit - I mention sensitive because while it's been 5 years, we've lost another 3000 soldiers as a result of the war that stemmed from this attack.

Alright, whatever, it's been over five years since then, not two days.
There's other videos on this subject here.
I was really just interested in the cloud view, much like the reason I posted this video;
http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=9929
There are other videos here where people die but, like this one, you don't actually see a person die.
For example, just the first one I came across when doing a quick search: http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=5822
Also here's a quite brutal video of a man dying on camera: http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=10311

That last link made me laugh Lucas. ;-)

I haven't watched this one, but if it shows the people falling from the building, I think it's over the line.

Regardless of the politics, we have a no snuff policy. If a video shows actual individuals dieing on camera that's too much.

Yeah, The reason is for Oil. Look at a Map... Control Afganastan, Move Right to Iraq, Then Iran... Hey, you control 80% of the worlds oil! Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. And as for the Pacifists, I don't blame them. I was there IN the war when the first shots were fired Peretz! I stood down the real WMD's when they really existed, faught side by side with noble soldiers who died for what? A can of oil.

This isn't the place to make comments like that Peretz so I'll leave it at that.

lucasgreensays...

Yeah, that's why I'm posting all those other links. So that the community can decide.
Just let it be a fair decision that will apply to all the others.
Especially the Rush Limbaugh video.
Man, that was rough!

OK guys, I've undiscarded it and sent it to the blog^h^h^h^h Sift Talk.

Let the Council of Sifters decide. I would watch it, but I don't want my pacifist feelings to be violated. (reference to peretz comment)

lucasgreensays...

Yeah, I'm just wondering how this is any different from the last video I linked to in this discussion.
http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=5566
That video has set a precedent so I see no need for further deliberation. But that's just my opinion, we'll let the community decide based on past decisions.

And as for it being too soon; The only thing this submission follows by two days is when this video was uploaded to the cameraperson's blog.

You have a valid arguement Lucasgreen and it will be interesting to see what others think here. However, being a sensitive subject, we need to be respectful with our comments to not turn this into a flame war or political battle. Is the 9/11 towers seen in this video too disturbing to be on VS? Does it constitute a "snuff" film because of the 3000 lives lost? These are the questions facing the VS jury.

lucasgreensays...

I haven't brought up any political issues, nor have I flamed anyone.
But if this video constitutes as "snuff" because of the 3000 lives lost then so does the other previously accepted video.
That's my case basically.

bnsasays...

At the 11:02 mark looks to be a person or debris falling... that's the only thing I could see graphic wise. I agree... it was an interesting camera angle and perspective to see it at that angle. Just don't know if this fits into here. :-/

lucasgreensays...

I just looked that over and that was clearly a peice of debris. If you go to the original site I posted earlier (not the google video page) there is a much larger and clearer version. It's not a person.

If it's a person *or* debris (unable to tell) then I'm thinking this probably does not fall afoul of our rule.

The rule is to prevent videos of public beheadings and the like. I too find videos of the WTC colapse very disturbing. I always get choked up - but probably not fitting for a discard.

bnsasays...

Heh... We're just spinning our tires on this and going no where. I'm going to sign off for tonight and let the members here decide this controversial debate. Then maybe we can move forward, more enlightened from this whole experience.

lucasgreensays...

I'm signing off for the night as well (I've got to get up for work in 5 hours).
Anyway, there's nothing that can be applied to this video to have it discarded that doesn't also apply to previously accepted videos.
I rest my case (for the night).
Goodnight all,
Lucas

I'm with dag. We have been pretty heavy handed with the no snuff rule largely because of a desire to prevent turning the Sift into "Faces of Death." We have however kept some military footage, and there are certainly other views of this on the Sift as well. I personally vote that it should stay, but will defer acting till some more people way in.

swampgirlsays...

It should stay because of it's historical significance.

So many sites have 9/11 videos and the comments afterwards are just ridiculous. Although it does show how people died, its in a site where people can see the footage treated respectfully instead of gratuitously.

daphnesays...

I can't watch it, either. I personally think the danger is in becoming desensitized to images like this. We see it on the 6:00 News while we eat our steak and potatoes...it just seems so - I don't know. Insensitive. The more we watch things like this, the more we lose our empathy for the people who experienced it.

But while I won't watch it, I agree that this case is different. I just hope that everyone watching remembers that behind those collapsing walls there were people who were frightened and confused...and ultimately died.

rickegeesays...

I do think this should stay for the reasons already mentioned. There is a distinct qualitative difference between something like this and "Watch Man Eaten By Alligator!" or the eventual "Watch Steve Irwin Get Stung!"

Earlier this year, there was a similar controversy about a haunting documentary called "The Bridge" which is based, in part, on a New Yorker article about people who commit suicide from the Golden Gate bridge. I considered posting the trailer on VS, but it is a very blurry line between understanding the pain that motivates such an act and exploiting the images of the suicides themselves.

lucasgreensays...

So, anyway, back to what I was saying before.
Honestly, the only reason I even posted it was because I thought the smoke/debris cloud spreading over the city after the second collapse was very cool looking. The cameraperson really had an excellent vantage point for that. I've always had a weird thing with flowing water and billowing smoke (I think it's why I started smoking cigarettes). I just think it looks cool. I would have posted it just the same had this been a standard demolition.

westysays...

intresting how the woman sez "it was a military plane " this gose with what other people have sead with it not been a camercail jet i know this will just fule conspiricy and u cnt use what people say as a fact but you have to ask why would so manny people say "it was a militry plane" wish the woman had filmed it. lol at the evil barny music in the background. its realy intresting as it gives you a realy good sence of scale unlike the other vidoise. oh and u get to see other parts of ny i havent ever seen. shame about all the dead but as iv sead before equaly shame about all the people usa has killed. not that that makes it right it just puts it in context wake up to your foghen policy and get intrestead in it becuse you as a free person in a democracy are partly responsable for what u govement dose u cnt just let them trolop all over the world arm groups of people with shady historys to fight wars for you and then exspect everything to work out perfectly all the time

InvaderSilsays...

Wait, I thought this was VideoSift.com, not Fark...Leave the comments at the door, specially for 9/11 videos. This stuff is hard enough to watch, we don't need the comments difficult to read as well.
