A teens introduction to an LP record

Ahh kids these days not knowing what a vinyl is. I feel kinda old.

Right, now to really confuse her, give her a 45 or better yet, 8Track or Reel-to-Reel!

Tell her the 45s will fit in some CD players and see what she does with it.

Totally staged. And horrible acting.

And on that note, I explained 8-track tapes to my 13 year old daughter recently.
That was fun. Of course she thought they were a stupid idea, but then...they were.

I agree....if it had been something a little more rare like an 8-Track it would have been more believable. Even though LP's aren't around like they used to be they are not extinct...I would assume most teens these days are familiar with "DJ's" that still mix and scratch using records.>> ^Trout:

Hmmm... BS meter blinkin' a bit. Methinks looks kinda staged?

Rarely are DJ's using LP's do mix with now. It's kind of sad but to be honest, you can do a lot more with MP3 mixers than with turn tables. At the very least, LP's are dying out as a medium for DJ's. It's not entirely dead yet but it's becoming more rare rapidly. Anyone who is coming into it now probably wont see records used by a DJ very often.

I'm 33 so, by the time I was a kid, tapes were pretty dominant but records were still commonplace. I remember my parents showing me an old 8-track player and tapes at my grandmother's house when I was maybe 6-8 years old.

It was interesting and I had never seen nor heard of 8-track before then but at no point did I say anything like, "Nooo waaaayy! This is huge! How many songs are on this?"

So not only is this staged and poorly acted, but the girl's part seems to have been written to make her sound like a moron.

I'm also curious about the strange logic that if you drop a cd once it is ruined, but you can drop an lp more often because it's bigger.

It's because contact with the floor only affects a certain area of an object that grows over time. So a CD, which is pretty small, is totally ruined by the time you pick it up again. This is also where the "5-second rule" comes from: The average bite of food has to be in contact with the floor for about five seconds before it's completely ruined.

Not "horrible" acting.

Shes pretty young... I can believe it if she pretty much stick to her sparkly vampire shows. But I can understand how it is such a reach when we still see records in use in both classic movies and new movies alike that any teen who watches movies has seen atleast.

35 here, in my day records were on their way out and tape was the main stay. I was big on audio quality not to mention the ability to start a record where ever I wanted so I still bought them, but had many tapes as well. The stereo I had gotten from my parents had an 8 track built in so I was familure with it, but it didn't interest me in the least. It's amazing it was a medium that caught on considering the low number of tracks per tape and you pretty much need to perform your songs to the same length in time.

id like to say I was an early adopter of cd but I had very little money, my first step into the cd world was actually when I got the sega cd. That's when I started buying cd albums.
