chicchoreasays...Your my hero.
I remember this show. My mouth was open the whole time. Just happened again.
Peterson.
Bruti79says...Beautiful, educational and needs a *happy for how it makes me feel =)
siftbotsays...Invocations (happy) cannot be called by Bruti79 because Bruti79 is not privileged - sorry.
spoco2says...So much knowledge... it's one thing to be able to play, but to know the theory and techniques like that makes for fascinating viewing/listening.
direpicklesays...Good! Adaptation... Improvisation...
hugithsays...I've listened to almost everything OP has ever recorded, but this is the first time I've heard him sing. Nice voice.
siftbotsays...Tags for this video have been changed from 'Piano, lesson, oscar, peterson' to 'Piano, lesson, oscar, peterson, Dick Cavett' - edited by SlipperyPete
SlipperyPetesays...this is masterful stuff
*quality *howto
siftbotsays...Boosting this quality contribution up in the Hot Listing - declared quality by SlipperyPete.
poolcleanersays...If only talk show hosts these days actually cared to present information rather than meaningless babble and gossip to fill up a time slot. The only thing that I can think of that was anything close to this on a general television show (Discovery and TLC aside) would be Mister Rogers.
Xaxsays...I'm an ex-pianist, but I'm still amazed and can't help but smile when I see a good pianist like this.
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Nice find.
Fusionautsays...>> ^dag:
Nice find.
Thank you. It was actually on one of my old piano teacher's Facebook page!
wormwoodsays...Wow, *this* makes the top 15 on this site?! There must be lots of cool people around here... Great stuff.

I wish there were still shows like Dick Cavett's on the air. Something in between the sombriety of Charlie Rose and sugary dreck of Jay Leno.
Also, check out this other fantastic Dick Cavett Sift where he interviews Orson Wells.
Ornthoronsays...With regards to his singing: The legend goes that both Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole started out as combined pianists/singers, and that the two of them were equally good at both. They supposedly reached a gentleman's agreement that Nat would concentrate mostly on singing and Oscar would focus on the piano, so as not to step on each other's toes.
Opus_Moderandisays..."To play us off? What does that mean, to play us off? I don't know what that means!"
ZappaDanMansays...I'm trained by the AMEB (Australian Musical Examinations Board). I learned more from this video, than a year with them at the Sydney conservatorium. They unfortunately made me, make learning music a chore. I had too many a heated conversation with instructors. It never felt like joy.
Oscar Paterson makes me want to learn again, what a difference a teacher makes.
