5th grade reporter asks Joe Biden "What a does a VP do?"

Skip to 3:45 for the question

A 5th grade reporter asked Joe Biden "What a does a VP do?" during an interview on Sept. 2, 2008 in Palm Beach County, FL. Biden answered with a response that could be understood by all of the students at KEC/Canal Point Elementary.

"Senator Biden was now my homeboy!" Ha

Okay, now this is a double standard. Biden said the same thing as Palin, just used more words to say it. He also left out the presiding over the Senate, tie-breaking vote bit.

I don't like Palin. I like Biden. But let's be fair. His answer is no different than Palin's.

(Now is someone out there going to insult me because I called for fairness? Why not pass on the snark, I'll consider it already done.)

^ No, Biden points out that it depends on the relationship with the President, and with his own personal contacts in the Congress, he can meet with his contacts to influence voting,

whereas Palin said the VP controls the Senate and works with them on policy.

Not the same.

I think that just quibbling. Picking out a word here or there. Biden talks about dealing with Senators to make policy. He doesn't mention tie-breaking.

Don't get me wrong, I think Palin wants to be Cheney. She said something similar in the VP debates that also smacked of Cheney.

My point is -- I believe someone non-partisan listening to the two answers would say they were virtually the same.

I don't know any non-partisans, or I'd test it out....

@bareboards: I'm voting democrat in this election, but I'm fairly non-partisan in general. To some extent, you're right, it IS quibbling over semantics, but those are some very important semantics. Both of them basically talk about being the president's voice to the senate, rather than being the tie-breaker vote, but Palin talks about not just being the president's voice, but also his arm. She believes she can literally run the senate. Biden, on the other hand, seems to be speaking much more about influence through diplomacy, rather than saying, "I'm the head of the senate, obey me!"

Sometimes semantics can be the most important part of a platform, because a person's choice of words can reveal things they may not have intended to reveal about their personal stance.

If Palin is anything like Quayle she'll be made fun of for being an intellectual lightweight and focus all of her attention on trying to slander the democratic presidential nominee as opposed to talking about the issues.

Also too, she'll spell things wrong.

Palin is dumb.

Let's see McCain have an interview with a kid, from what I can gather they are all scared of him.

He does remind me of the penguin.. I keep expecting him to say "Where's Batman... er Barack.."

Cute kid, good answer and tone for the audience. Well played.

If Biden's anything like Gore, he'll be making campaign contribution calls from the White House (a crime) and holding the door for scum like Ayers and Wright.

Man... bitter much?

Scum? Ayers could have killed people 40 years ago, so I'll not defend him, but I think Wright was just voicing his opinion to his congregation which pretty much makes him exactly the same as you with your 'scum' opinion about him.

I don't think he did anything wrong. As has been said before, I may disagree heartily with what he says, but I'll defend to the death his right to say it.
