But We're Speaking Japanese!

uberzip says...

I wouldn't say that, but this does happen in countries where foreigners are easy to spot. Happens to my wife in China. She's a 6' tall white girl. Her Mandarin is fantastic. If she speaks on the phone in China people can't tell she's a foreigner. When she travels on the train, people can tell what Chinese city she is from. Yet, more than once we've run into somebody who simply can't grasp that a white girl can speak Chinese. It's like they convince themselves they can't understand and so they don't. It's the weirdest thing. This video is eerily familiar.

Inside the World's Most Dangerous Amusement Park

They have an alpine slide at one of the great wall sites near Beijing - it's really fun but pretty dangerous. The employees just yell at you to go faster too, which is pretty funny.

Here in the states one can find cases of mexican coke at Costco in the glass bottles (at least in Washington state). I don't know if Canadian costcos have this. I also see it at a lot of the mexican taco trucks. It's my favorite... tastes like how I remember coke tasting as a kid. It is sweeter but more clean and less syrupy tasting.

I want to try Coke made with sugar. They still make it that way in Mexico, I hear.

I live in a small town in America and rarely get to the big city. Please tell me these monstrosities are just in Australia? Not in America yet?

Yea, see my previous comment. These are in America. Unfortunately, I've never seen small motorcycle billboards like the ones used here, I've only seen larger trucks like he uses, which is even more depressing...

Sorry, but yes they are in a America. I live in the greater Seattle area and we have these. I think this is one of the most ignorant ways of advertising, especially what could be considered the environmentalist capital of the world (Seattle, IMHO). I wouldn't label myself an environmentalist but even I find these things offensive and refuse to do any business with anybody I see use these.

I loved this segment!

Welcome to China! Please enjoy your ride! :)

uberzip says...

Yup, that's Tianjin. Even though its the 3rd or 4th biggest city in China it's still considered a bit "country" so yea the driving is pretty crazy compared to Beijing (which still has plenty of craziness). Even though they don't drive as fast there the cars do drive plenty fast on the freeway and you see plenty of accidents there. However, because it is so crazy people are typically on the look out and will go around you if you are going the wrong way or walking across the street. The worst thing that you can't see from this video is that the cab drivers don't let you wear seat belts. Seeing as they are never used you'll get a nice black stripe across your cloths if you do try to use them because they are so dirty.

How smelly is the durian?

uberzip says...

My thoughts on durian...

Smell is about the same as when I need to take my kitchen garbage out... mostly a pungent, rotting fruit smell.

Taste is very different. Reminded me of eating garlic pudding. Once you start eating it you can't really smell it anymore. So usually if people around you are eating it the only sane thing to do is join in!

The Volvo Recharge - Hybrid car with 4 in-wheel motors

I know the car is just a prototype but hopefully, if it ever does go into production, they will move the power socket. Having it on the front bumper isn't just ugly but it'd get full of bugs and dirt. The first time you have even the slightest fender bender you can kiss a way to recharge the car overnight goodbye.
