Who Left This Hole in the Ground, Mr. President? (8:45)

yeh kadampah1, bush really has no power here at all. it's completely beyond his sphere of influence, and i'm sure if he made a serious attempt to facilitate the rebuilding process, the parties involved would just ignore him. so why even try? get real.

it's notable that your strident posting claims exactly what olberman specifically addressed: it's not just one man. it's the entire gaggle of incompetent cronies. but the pretense that bush has no responsibility for his administration wears thin.

i've been quiet, comment-wise, but sometimes when your knee jerks, it hits my knee, which jerks back in response.

no matter how you slice it, this administration has proven time and time again that they are just not competent at anything they put their hand to. that's what it all comes down to.

It begins to sound absolutely ridiculous when people start to refer to these bogeymen terrorists as if they know what they're talking about. There is no monolithic group of "terrorists" out there, there are only relatively small groups, relatively disparate, responding to local conditions. Why engage in hysterics (sorry, no other word for it)? and why point to "them" as justification for all sorts of questionable or clearly illegal activities on the part of this administration? That's just lazy fantasizing.

Are you all really that afraid of your own shadow? And how, again, does that justify rounding up innocent civilians and torturing them, sometimes to death. These are already established facts, not subject to debate.

***
Pidgeonhole me as you may, if you are an a US-American citizen and cannot unequivocally state that torture is wrong, I'll be honest (and incendiary) and suggest your morals need serious readjusting. Look at yourself again and try to remember the country you grew up in. Do you really want to bury it?

tedbater: WAR WORKS
thanks, i'll make a note of it. perhaps it should become our general MO. never mind those brown people we kill, the ones who had nothing to do with any of this. they are of no consequence, and anyone who disagrees is just a stupid liberal unable to understand the real world.

whew, you saved me teddy. i almost bought into that ridiculous liberal belief that it is unequivocally bad to kill. fuck 'em.

It would be really interesting to compare this to anthropological films of folk rituals and healing cermonies. The phenomenon of "religious intoxication" crosses cultures, and is an important part of many rituals.

This, though, seems more like mass hysteria or mass conformity, or some of both. Scary. They lose their minds, and preacherman gives the orders.

Shatner responds for the finale of his ROAST

sfjocko says...

It was beautiful. I've gotta go find the entire show. My jaw hit the floor during George Takei's turn (http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=8773). And Betty White was funny too (http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=8688)
But the Shat was pure gold. I have to say, I get some enjoyment seeing his career blossom and to see him get this recognition. It's a rare thing for an actor to see a character they play elevated to a cultural icon -- and not just a character but a character that is identified ONLY with them. Many actors have been Hamlet. Only one can be James T. Kirk. He could never have imagined this in his wildest dreams. It must be extremely gratifying for him. As a long-time Trek lover, I claim a tiny piece of gratification for myself, and my own long personal relationship with Captain Kirk.

Pentecostal Bedlam

sfjocko says...

from the youtube page:
The late Kenneth Hagin and not-late Kenneth Copeland are seen here during a pastor's conference in which the crowd was worked up into quite a state. "Holy Laughter", "Spiritual Drinkenness", dancing, thrashing about, falling out, speaking in tongues, mooing (yes, you read that right) and various and sundry other so-called pentecostal manifestions.
It becomes evident that in a room full of preachers and their wives, especially of the crazy holy-roller persuasion, no one wants to be seen as being left out or not being spiritual. So.... these kinds of mass-mind outbursts tend to snowball.

no daph, i can't say i fully get it. i thought the discard function was more for duplicates or truly highly questionable material, and it's not just a super-charged downvote. i don't really care all that much about this particular video, it's more the principle that i'm wondering about. you mean to say i can discard any video just cuz i feel like it?
