I read an article that his pronunciation sprang from shortening it to "jif" instead of saying the letters independently, ie. "jee-eye-ef", since we all say the letter g with the soft g.
If that's his reasoning, we all need to correct him because it's actually "jife", as in life. So he's saying it wrong too.

Until the creator gets everyone to pronounce to a "jraphics", it's gonna gif with a hard-g. I bet he thinks he's a "Trekker" too.

Yes please! One of my favorite scenes in a sci-fi movie is John Lithgow's frantic spacewalk in 2010. It never occurred to me how frightening an EVA could be until after I saw that.
