KP, I appreciate your dilemma. Girls aren't physical, so they use their nasty tongues. My daughter suffered the same from girls in her class (grade 2)and the horrible part about it all, was when she told me and I told the teacher and the principal gave them a verbal dressing down, it only got worse. It got so bad, she would scream and cry when I dropped her off at school and after a few weeks of this, we pulled her out.

I don't know what the answer is, because we never really resolved the problem. The next school was a little better, but not much. The girls were nasty to each other and the boys. In some ways, I think they have an advantage over boys, because their words are aimed right where it hurts and boys probably wouldn't retaliate in the way they are used to, so I can imagine they would feel quite impotent.

Schools don't deal with this problem effectively, in my opinion. A verbal dressing down by the teachers doesn't work and in the case you have described, retaliation by the victim would probably get them into trouble.

From little things, big things grow. It' easy to sit back on our arses and criticise. What is impressive, what is inspiring, is to witness those with the cajones to get out in the world and do something positive, even if all they did was draw media attention to the fact that the Japanese are still at it, despite world opinion against whaling and if they actually managed to save a few dozen whale's lives in the process, then that's a great outcome.

What a great little metaphor(woops). Don't know why there's negative reaction here. You Choggie, talk about how the American diet has gone to shit. Where do you think that all starts? With the wonderful food that women's bodies produce on demand? No! It starts with the formula pushed onto them by every well-meaning relative/nurse/doctor, who thinks it will save the mother some trouble.

If I'd listened to my well-meaning folks, I would have quit breastfeeding at 5 months, because they all claimed my fussy baby was starving. Thankfully, I persisted and a good thing too, because at 18 months when she got chickenpox and wouldn't eat or drink anything but breastmilk, I knew I was giving her the best nutrition to get her through the illness.

Choggie, I'm sorry I deleted the foul message you sent to me in a private profile reply when I first started sifting, in response to comments I left on a previous video about breastfeeding. The virulent attack was completely uncalled for and if I could, I would drag it out of the ether and show everyone here how nasty you can be toward women who want to show support for breastfeeding.

A highschool friend of mine has cerebral palsy. She can walk and do everything for herself, but she has a very wobbly gait and talks like Jesper here. People passing by, who don't know any better, assume she's drunk. On the phone, people think she's very upset, like she's crying or something. That pisses her off. So many attitudes from others drive her crazy and it's made her pretty cynical.

Fortunately, she has a devilish sense of adventure and a razor-sharp wit, so she manages to get on with her life, despite the crap she encounters. I never really appreciated what her life was really like, when we were younger, because she seemed to cope so well. I am in awe of her, now.

Interesting how one's sympathy changes from going toward her, to the boyfriend, to the coffin bearer, all in a matter of minutes.

Bullying is really different between girls too, making it hard for teachers/adults to detect. Rarely will girls get physical with each other, instead, they use exclusion techniques, rumour-spreading and a host of other verbal/body language methods.

If a girl feels she doesn't want to make a fuss, or feels ashamed that she is a victim of bullying, sometimes it can go on undetected for a very long time. I also think that after a long enough period of this, girls will often turn around and become the bully themselves, in the same way that they experienced.
