EDIT BONOBO: Deleted comment, then added edit 1.

EDIT 3: Added edit 3, then added a 1 to the first edit, then subtracted the 1 and decided to add it at the end of edit 1 comment.
EDIT 4: Deleted the comment for real, then lied about it in EDIT 1, which is now titled EDIT BONOBO. (Don't ask.)

Most Disturbing Workplace Safety Video Evar?

mrk871 says...

FUCKING HELL!!!!!!!

I'm not working there!!!
Where is this place?
Do they not know anything about work safety?!?!?!?

I do NOT consider this a very good advertisement.
Who the bugger-fuck-in-shitting-jesusing-crap-me-backwards-out-of-your-arse-and-then-mine-whilst-not-knowing-where-all-this-swearing-is-leading do they send these promotional materials to?

I don't even know where to begin with the list of complaints to make to the marketing department and PR departments about this video, let alone the health and safety people?!?!?

Sack all the still alive staff, and sue the relatives of the dead ones before they sue you.

Ronaldinho's ingenious free kick

mrk871 says...

Come on. Let's be honest about this. None of those football men wanted to hurt their feet. That was a fast kick by that other football kicker man, and it was going straight at their feet.
That ball - if that hits your foot you'd know about it. That's why it's called football you know, aim for the feet and take the football men out.
I think this was fantastic defensive playing myself. Not one of the football men got hurt, and the kicker man is embarrassed now that he missed.
Some of the best football jumping defence I've seen.
Everyone thinks this game should be something else, but in reality a decent game of football involves two very talented teams of bottom heavy players, and looks much more like ten-pin bowling than what we see in this bastardised game.

Political Tea Bagging! - Fox is Right! Burn the Books!

mrk871 says...

"Those brainwarshin' books - like the evolution crap"
"Yeah, I'm with you girl"

Shit. I thought when she shouted "BURN THE BOOKS!!!" that she was doing a funny parody of the crazy guy who had stood up, and everyone else was feeling a little awkward waiting for him to stop and sit down, (and the burn the books shout was to relieve the tension a little). Then they can get on with the more believable angry paranoia type stuff.
But they're all taking this in and I presume generally agreeing with it.

Jesus Christ, you Americans have got some healthy dollop of crazy amongst your ranks.

From CEO to Delivering Pizza

I find it difficult to feel completely sorry for this guy. Seems he's not very talented at assessing risk, and his decisions have probably put far more people in worse positions. How many news stories are there of the rags to nothing variety? Why should people care more just because he was rich? He of anyone was in a much better position to avoid this.
He probably could have taken a $50,000 a year job or maybe more, but I bet he's waited out for two years for another $300,000+ job. Why didn't they cut back on the luxuries earlier, sell the house etc.
If he's left it this long to start facing the reality, which he will have been a part in creating during his lucrative career, then I just think he's having to learn a lesson in a very hard way, and one that he probably could have avoided if he weren't expecting to maintain such an extravagant lifestyle.

Dawkins attempted banned in Oklahoma, mocks back

mrk871 says...

Prior to this video I commented on Dawkins' lack of ability to communicate his message effectively.
I take those statements back and can see his value in doing this. This was a good presentation that gets the message across well. I still hold to the belief that he's not as charismatic as he could be to maximise on the PR game that needs to be played. He still has the air of a scientist, and is no smooth talker.
But I think this style of presenting makes it worthwhile him not focusing on actually being a scientist.

Strange Elongated Skulls Discovered in Russia

WLF!?!!!

Does nobody see it?!!
These are fucking half human half aliens.
I knew it.
I knew they'd find them eventually.

I thought I'd buried them well and truly, but oh my go they're going to unearth the lair aren't they?

Does the human race never learn?!?!?!!

Richard Dawkins on Creationism

mrk871 says...

>> ^hixsonj:
mrk871, I think you're vastly underestimating the amount of "fence-sitters" when it comes to religion. Like Hive13 said it could be as high as 60% of people who might not believe as strongly as they let on. Dawkins may be smug and a bit snarky at times, but he's been a hugely powerful agent in getting people to discuss religion, however uncomfortable it might be for some.

^ ^
And in response to other posters above too.
I guess I don't face the same levels of Christianity that people in the US face. It's easy to be atheist in the UK. If anything it's probably the reverse of the US i.e. it's more embarrassing to state that you are a Christian than an atheist.

Anyway the main jist of my point is that I feel that _Richard_Dawkins_ himself is wasting his time.
I.e. he is much more valuable to science than to be fighting against religion.
Maybe I'm wrong about the being able to sway people thing, and so we do need someone stating the cause of science and fighting back against religion.
It's just from over here it seems like we've lost a great scientist to a load of petty squabbling over something non-existent.

So I'm not saying there shouldn't be someone talking about it. Obviously from what you're saying there should be.
Just why use Dawkins?

It seems like sending an astronaut to negotiate some complex business deal.
I.e. there may be value to the business deal, but why not send someone more suited to the job, and let the astronaut explore space?
