Kermit and Ted Koppel explain the Stock Market

flavioribeiro says...

In the current political atmosphere, Kermit and Fozzie Bear would be censored if they tried to explain economics.

They made a big deal about the national debt being $2.4 trillion. Today it's more than $9 trilion and increasing at 1.5 billion per day, but the media doesn't like to talk about what this means.

Ron Paul talks about weed

flavioribeiro says...

Ron Paul is a congressman running on his 10th term. During the last 20 years he's voted consistently according to the US Constitution, and has defended the positions you see in his videos. He's not catering to special interest groups, and he never has. He's a medical doctor who had a successful medical practice for many decades, and decided to get into politics in order to make a contribution.

Look at his voting record. Many times he voted alone against every other representative, because he was the only one sticking by the Constitution. He has a remarkable knowledge of the law, world history and economics. He's not lying, and he has 20 years of open records to back him up.

Can you say "Scare Tactics"?

flavioribeiro says...

Giuliani is one fascist bastard. This combination of hate, nationalism, pride and war mongering is quite similar to the garbage that made Hitler appreciated in Germany.

If the American economy crashes, many Americans will look for a strong leader. People like Giuliani will always be present, catering to people who feel humiliated -- exactly like the Germans felt after losing WWI and being left with a messed up economy.

I hope Americans have the strength to reject this ideology.

Ron Paul Rising

flavioribeiro says...

BicycleRepairMan, with Ron Paul public education should be better because the states will be in control. It's always better to delegate local functions to the local governments, because the federal government can't adequately allocate resources to functions it doesn't directly monitor.

Ron Paul drives a solid argument when he says the United States can't afford its foreign policy, much less the promises made by other candidates to expand healthcare. The other candidates never mention how the US is supposed to afford all this spending, simply because they can't give an honest answer.

The sad fact is that the United States is going bankrupt. Most Americans want to fool themselves into believing this isn't true. They complain about gas prices, and the few who travel abroad complain how everything suddenly so expensive, but they want to pretend everything is under control, and that nothing can happen to the greatest economy in the world.

One big reason why Europe can afford universal health care and education is because it doesn't spend 1 trillion dollars per year in Iraq, doesn't have 550 thousand troops overseas and doesn't have to pay massive interest on a quadratically increasing foreign debt.

I'm a big fan of Ron Paul, and I'm not even American. I'm a Brazilian engineering grad student with a background in mathematics and economics, and I've never seen a candidate from any country that was so knowledgeable about history, economics and foreign policy, and so focused in defending civil liberties. I wish I could vote for him.

"Chipmunks" cover of Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne

flavioribeiro says...

I like the original version of Girlfriend. Like most of Avril's songs, it's supposed to be fun.

Nearly everyone who's against Avril likes to complain that she's not punk rock. Well, guess what: she never was! Back when she was just starting out I remember hearing her sing Temple of Life, which is as Christian as you can get without mentioning Jesus and the apostles. Some of her demo material had a gospel theme, including the stereotypical poorly played keyboard and choir.

She was marketed to 12-14 year old females as the embodiment of rebellion, and while she made no effort to deny this, all she did was wear punk inspired clothing.

Avril sings pop music with a power chord here and there. She's like Hilary Duff with a different wardrobe.

Ron Paul Denies Theory of Evolution

flavioribeiro says...

I like his answer, and you'll feel more comfortable with it if you consider his idea of government.

Ron Paul's views on religion or evolution aren't relevant because as President he would follow the Constitution and not any set of scientific paradigms. It doesn't matter whether he accepts the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, or evolution, or general relativity.

The whole libertarian platform defends that the federal government should let people govern their own lives because it recognizes that politicians and bureaucrats aren't experts in most subjects, and are thus unqualified to make expert decisions. The federal government can't adequately regulate education, healthcare or scientific research on a nationwide level, and should delegate this responsability to local governments.

Limited government is designed to prevent prejudices or special interests from interfering with our lives. This applies to beliefs regarding evolution, or religious beliefs. If you watch the Candidates@Google interview you'll see that Ron Paul defends legalizing prostitution and drugs. He doesn't approve of them, but he thinks it's not the federal government's responsibility to interfere, and that these decisions should be made locally (if that).
