The Green Fairy - History of Absinthe

codenazi says...

Ahh, the best drink in the world.

Some nice Tabu Strong, Ulex Strong, Bairnsfather Bitter, or the very best I've ever seen, the King of Spirits. I could drink nothing but absinthe... it's such a wonderful drink.

For your absinthe importing needs, I've had very good luck with alandia.de - expensive shipping, but it gets here fast...

The Evolution of Anime

re: WWII

I believe so. I'm firmly of the belief that any time you see Tokyo or whatever getting destroyed, it's a reaction to having been hit with the bomb.

CLAMP really hits this hard - I think they destroy Tokyo (especially Tokyo Tower) in every show they do. (well, except for "X", which destroyed everything in Tokyo except the tower...)

The Evolution of Anime

I think I saw some Bakuretsu Hunters and Vampire Princess Miyu in there, too.

I don't know what's worse - that I've seen almost all of those, or that I recognized most of the shows on the short flashes of each that were in the video.

Prove Rational Atheism, Collect $1000

codenazi says...

to adapt an old joke:

How many atheists does it take to change a light bulb?

Well, if K atheists change a light bulb and another simply watches them do it, then (K+1) atheists will have changed the light bulb. If one atheist asks Six Californians to change the bulb, reducing the problem to an earlier joke, then one atheist will have changed the light bulb, establishing the base case.

Therefor, by induction, N atheists can change a light bulb, for all values of N where (N>=1).

How to pay for anything with blank paper

codenazi says...

I think the quote from the prince/halftime-show scam was "The psychology of the cat and mouse is this: The cat doesn't expect the mouse to come up to it and ask if it can use the forklift. They just don't do that."

I'd guess that the hot dog guy is used to small-time quick scams like that, so is more watchful. The guy that sold the ring? Did he ever even think that a guy would just walk up and hand him paper to pay for something? I'd highly doubt it, as that just isn't supposed to happen!

Sigh... when will people learn that security is about being vigilant, even in the areas you think should be safe, as that's where people will target...

Super mario "Air Hack" Speed Run

codenazi says...

dying at the end is one of the few things in the game that's not a glitch, actually!

The room bowser is in is the half-way point in the level, so when you die, it starts you right there instead of the beginning of the level. When you start after a death, though, you always start at the "ground" height, which is a helpful little tunnel under the boss!

Oh My God.

codenazi says...

that looks like a typical level in rRootage. In fact... many of the bullet-waves look like they were generated by the same BulletML library.

The hardest is still the Ikaruga-style modes, though... rRootage is hard enough normally, but when you have to constantly flip white/black to avoid some of the shots, as you cannot dodge half of them... it warps the mind...

Super mario "Air Hack" Speed Run

codenazi says...

sure...

This mod is basically a puzzle made for all of the people trying to make the super-fast Mario videos and such. SMB had... a lot of bug in it. (in fact, a lot of games of that era did) This enabled stuff like a 1-frame time where you could jump off walls and such, ways to glitch-through objects, etc.

A list of such tricks can be found here, with fairly detailed explanations of them all. Most of them require exact-frame timing to exploit, so tools (emulators with freeze-frame, save-state, etc) are used.

"air" is basically impossible to actually play by hand - the constant glitches you need to just move though the first level are insane. Even with an emulator, though, just figuring out how to get through one area is really hard.

The creator of the video has some release notes for his original submission that describe some of the specific tricks and glitches that were needed. Basically all are possible in the original SMB, though "air" was modded to also allow infinite jumps. That basically doesn't help, the puzzles are so insane...

"air" - Mario Puzzles For The Obsessive Fan

codenazi says...

sigh... I question the usefulness of responding to such bitterness ("semi-hygienic"?), but... meh.

I'll *discard it, even though it certainly is not my own content (though my own youtube account), as I'm really not trying to cause trouble. I have now linked three times to the original non-youtube, non-me site it came from, yet you call it "a shameless plug".

If reposting videos is frowned on here, that really should be added to the FAQ, as I'm certain I've seen others do that as well.
