This type of materialism just creates a short-term increase in enjoyment, and then things go back to normal.

After the initial newness has passed, watching movies will go back to only being as fun as watching them on your computer monitor (which is fine).

He could have saved himself hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Richard Feynman on helping the Manhattan Project

That's interesting... I wasn't aware of that. It seems Nazi policies and distaste for "Jew Science" greatly slowed their nuclear research down, but they were still making fast progress on it.

"In the late 1930s, Germany might very well have had a 5-year lead on the West in [atomic weaponry]. ... [But] Manhattan did go forward, first and foremost as a counter to the feared German development [of atomic weaponry]." Google Books: How to lose a War.

The following thread isn't a primary source, but it's enough to make me think more research would probably find similar conclusions to the commenters:

Germany was working on nuclear bombs and reactors. German scientists Hahn, Meitner and Stassmann discovered the nuclear chain reaction in uranium in 1939. One reason Albert Einstein wrote FDR lobbying for an all out effort to make an atomic bomb was he got letter from German friends saying we know how to make atomic explosions for Gods sake hurry up. Einstein got through to FDR and we know were this ended up. In Germany they put their best man in charge a theorist named Werner von Heisenberg...

Most people wouldn't really care if they were the opposite gender.

If you ask most women "If you were a man instead, what would you do?" they'll probably say "I'd try to be a good man." They won't say "I'd undergo medical procedures to partially change my gender to female."

I think that's a good basis from which to say that this girl is fixated... she's under the mistaken impression that (1) gender matters and (2) it's psychologically fixed, rather than malleable.

(That being said, I found this to be a sweet video.)

@TangledThorns

From what I've read in the scientific literature, they say that fetus' brains and sex develop at different points, so e.g. hormone spikes at a certain point in development can make the brain male or female, while the rest of the body develops to be the opposite sex.

(Individuals' sex can be more complicated than just genetic sex. Genetic males can grow up to appear female in every way if there are certain unusual hormonal conditions.)

There's nothing wrong with intellectual discussion between people with different viewpoints.

When we let bad ideas spread unopposed, it's bad for the world.

Didn't realize quoting something out of the video meant that I was wholeheartedly endorsing it. Just thought it was a point he made that was worth highlighting.

And there's no reason to jump straight to barter as that wasn't what was said. I could just as easily buy it in China or convince someone to take my Euros for a new computer. Both of those acts would not require me to believe in Dollar$ and would be consistent with his statement.

Either way, think maybe you need to chilaxe a little.
