GTAV Mod plays havok with cutscenes

WaterDweller says...

Reminds me of a recurring theme in some of my dreams, where my legs are unable to support my weight, and I end up crumbling down, and hobbling along the streets trying to catch the bus.

Sink Hole 2 for 1

Mr. @lucky760 may not have noticed that the camera is mounted on a bus, which the two people in question are exiting.

Edit: upon further consideration, the thought has struck me that lucky760 made the comment in jest.

Edit 2: even further consideration has all but confirmed that his comment was in jest. Color me surprised.

The Antares rocket exploding at liftoff

WaterDweller says...

I don't know this for certain, but I think it so likely I'll just make a categorical statement: They have to push a button to transmit. There were probably quite a few literal fucks given before that button was pushed and orders relayed.

Ickster said:

I gotta say, I love how emotionless these guys always are. Rocket blows up; not a word is said about it other than "launch teams, be advised: stay at your stations."

Not even a single utterance like "Well, shit."

Cool explosion on Mars

WaterDweller says...

Indeed, I imagine quite a few people followed the fly-by, hobbyists and professionals alike, probably thousands of people worldwide. Yet there is only this video showing anything unusual about it. You'd think there'd be a crapload of people talking about this if it were true. A flash like that would show even through a small telescope.

Six Hours of Simulated Airplane Travel

Excalibur artillery shell

WaterDweller says...

Well, my point wasn't so much against weapons being developed to improve accuracy and reduce unintended casualties, but rather the video presentation, in particular the music, which is clearly selected to create as much of a "cool" factor as possible. I find the video fascinating, sure, but there's nothing cool about it, and I would upvote if it didn't have this music (or any music).

WaterDweller jokingly says...

OMG, look at that! They've made more stuff used to murder people! That's so fucking awesome, I almost shat myself. Wow, this video is so cool. Look how advanced our methods of destruction have become!

The latest anti-drone technology

WaterDweller says...

Was the hawk injured? Those drone rotors turn pretty fast, and I've read about people getting cuts from accidentally touching them. I wouldn't be surprised if that hawk was maimed.

War Thunder - Victory is Ours - Most Epic Game Trailer Ever

WaterDweller says...

@ChaosEngine I imagine because trench warfare was actually used in a few cases during WW2. From Wikipedia:

"Combined arms tactics where infantry, artillery, armour and aircraft cooperate closely greatly reduced the importance of trench warfare.

It was, however, still a valuable method for reinforcing natural boundaries and creating a line of defence. For example, at the Battle of Stalingrad, soldiers on both sides dug trenches within the ruins. In addition, before the start of the Battle of Kursk, the Soviets constructed a system of defence more elaborate than any other they built during World War I. These defences succeeded in stopping the German armoured pincers from meeting and enveloping the salient."
