Self Defense Scam Fail - EFO Empty Force

YouTube comment, QFT:

"If there were idiots who believed in this before this video was posted, I assure you there will be idiots who believe in it afterwards. He'll probably make something up about how the alignment of the stars affected him or that an evil EFO master put a curse on him."

Self Defense Scam Fail - EFO Empty Force

Velocity5 says...

Non-empiricism ruins peoples' lives.

I'm currently watching an extended family member destroy her end-of-life financial planning because she thinks she just needs to meditate/pray harder.

Instead of living below her means before it's too late, she's planning on being able to "manifest" the money needed to continue her needlessly exorbitant lifestyle.

Naturally, she's lost a lot of money to salesmen and con-artists with "high integrity" who pitched her "alternative investments" that were "sure things."

Teen Playing the Knockout Game Gets Shot Twice by Victim

Velocity5 says...

"I see a connection between this feeling of powerlessness and the "stop and frisk" laws."

If we were science-minded, we'd demand statistics to confirm that hypothesis. And we'd look for data showing that removing "stop and frisk" reduces crime. But it's likely the opposite... "stop and frisk" works, and removing it increases crime.

The reason there's a correlation between cities with "stop and frisk" and the "knockout game" is because these cities passed "stop and frisk" in response to their unhinged urban youth violence.

These kids feel powerless because their academic scores are the level of third-worlders. Fix that, and everything else will fix itself.

I've been watching a lot about the knockout game as of late. It really does seem to be a hate crime (It's also called Polar Bearing, because it's victims tend to be white). It's caused quite a stir in the black community, as those who know better seem to be cringing and distancing themselves from the attacks as well as possible.

Ultimately, it's the fault of a few individuals who feel powerless enough in their own lives to try to take it out on others. I see a connection between this feeling of powerlessness and the "stop and frisk" laws passed in many of the cities where the knockout game first became popular.

I think the solution to this kind of violence is improving police relations with the affected communities. The first step is getting rid of "stop and frisk", the second removal of police arrest quotas, the third would be reducing the black prison population's non-violent offenders.

Gorilla's Put on a Surprise show for Onlookers!

Velocity5 says...

The top gorilla appears to be male. The narrator suggests the bottom gorilla might be male as well, which does happen in gorillas, but there's no visual confirmation within the video.

Gorillas, like lions, have relatively small penises and testes because they form highly ordered societies.

Angel gets fired from the X-Men

FFS, if you only have enough material for one joke, make a 30-second video.

This is as bad as SNL: good ideas but terrible, drawn-out implementation.

The thumbnail is funnier than the skit is. (But I still upvoted )

@JimmyKimmel @KanyeWest Feud

Velocity5 says...

Kanye West is 36 years old.

But many 13-year-olds are more mature than he is... typing in all caps, becoming offended over nothing, and trying to win debates through insults.

To put it in perspective... if Kanye was a commenter on Videosift, he'd be less intelligent than everybody here. I've never seen anybody typing in all caps here.

Employee at Publix Follows Kids Around the Store

Velocity5 says...

Rationalist African-Americans tend to dress so people will know from looking at them that they reject ghetto culture.

Aren't we talking about culture, but pretending we're talking about race?

For example, conservatives dislike ghetto crime, but they've wanted Herman Cain and Allen West to be their presidential candidates.

Yogi said:

@shang the point is that yes this is racist. It happens constantly, and while it may not be 100% of the time based on race, there's too much anecdotal evidence for it to be bullshit.

It's like Stop and Frisk, everything about it seems wrong, smells wrong, and is wrong. The arguments are stupid and should've been put to bed awhile ago, but we're still a very racist country.

Employee at Publix Follows Kids Around the Store

Velocity5 says...

Artician, minorities like Asian-Americans have lower average crime rates than the White-American average.

So it seems like you're talking about NAM (non-Asian minority) culture, but you're instead using the blanket term "minorities" inaccurately.

artician said:

Definitely not limited to race, but minorities and people who we've been trained to see as lower-income/lower class get this treatment much more.
It makes me rage, that corporations have effectively conditioned their employees that everyone is a suspected thief, and to be militant in their attempt to expose someone.
Some people need help, some people need care, and some people are sick of living in a society where we have plenty, kept behind an invisible wall of enterprise, but trained every day to want it.

Elon Musk designs 3D rocket parts with his hands in the air

Velocity5 says...

1. Industrial design of this type is more about math and data, not about intuitive understanding.

So controlling things with your hands looks like a gimmick which would be useless for power-users. For power-users, their mouse and keyboard shortcuts become extensions of their mind.

2. I had no idea we can 3d print now using titanium, rather than just plastic

That part really does conjure up the Iron Man movies... the lone designer designing and printing in his garage without needing to wait for a titanium factory 10,000 miles away to create your prototype and ship it to you.

Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire!

Worst Twerk Fail EVER - Girl Catches Fire!

Velocity5 says...

I just did a handstand and simulated falling over.

I think there's no way anybody would keep their arms straight.

Our bodies are extremely wary of letting out bodies slam into the ground, full impact, with our arms as a fulcrum. When we're next to a glass table (!), that instinct is even more pronounced.

Once we're tipping over upside-down, our bodies instinctively crumple to return to the ground and avoid the body slam.

This just adds to the already large number of improbabilities that have to occur in order for this video to be real.

rebuilder said:

The natural instinct for some is to keep the head as far from the ground as possible. Collapse your arms and do it wrong, you'll end up ramming your noggin into the ground with your whole body behind it.

I've "instinctively" found myself doing both (at different times). Controlled falls hurt a lot less.
