Smoking weed in movies

Billy Joel - Piano Man

Trout says...

Just to be clear... this particular video was indeed filmed in the '80s, but the song - including the recording used in this video - is from the early '70s. 1973 to be exact. People often forget just how long he's been in the biz. (This video was released in 1985 when they were promoting his mid-'80s greatest hits collection.)

There was actually a near identical video shot in '73 for the song, with the same recording used. It's here (and is cooler, methinks! - check out Joel's shaggy hairstyle):

The American Scream - Official Trailer

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Tin Pan Alley (Montreux '85)

Trout says...

Tag this with Johnny Copeland. That's him, the late, great Johnny Copeland, on co-lead guitar and co-lead vocals here. Copeland is also a Texas blues legend, and Grammy-winner who started out a generation before Stevie in the '50s. Not as showy as the (amazing) Vaughan, but every bit as soulful. Oh, and he's Shemekia Copeland's dad!

Casting Anakin Skywalker - Star Wars Episode 1

"I think she said feck...."

Hey that's Michael Angarano (the dark haired boy), who shortly after losing this role bounced back with the role of young William in Almost Famous! Not a bad consolation prize.

Also, interesting that Jake Lloyd seems confident and pretty strong in these clips. The script, not so much... hmmm.

The Gap Band - "Shake" - (Soultrain 1979)

Trout says...

Love the Gap band, and this tune in particular! I hate to rain on the OP's parade (a little), but this awesome performance is actually just a lip-sync/mime along to the album track - as was typically the case on Soul Train in those days. So the band isn't really playing the tune here, just boogie-ing down while they pretend.

Still though, awesome to see those guys sell it, and in their prime...

How did Fox get into this? I'm seeing a report done by a CBS affiliate. Also, wtf Arizona?

I was the one who thought it was Fox. Now that I see it's a local CBS station, I'm even more shocked they broadcast this. Who's pulling the strings over there?

Snopes debunk of the whole thing (see lower section):

What's amazing to me is seeing a local news station so clearly co-opted by extremist views (and Arpaio's influence). I mean, I know it's a Fox affiliate, but the way this report is presented - complete with straight faced local anchors, an on-the-scene-reporter, and law enforcement collaboration - is positively Orwellian.

Many realize Fox (cable channel) has a political viewpoint (even those that agree with it). But not everyone who watches their local news broadcast realizes it can be this falsified.

Chilling.

Trout says...

Ok, so this video is blowing up... what's going to happen when his wife finds out he posted this? (Assuming it's real - which I actually think it is!) People have divorced and lawyered up over much less. Follow up video please!

Anyway, no big deal. He is clearly bored and wants out.
