The Airlines Are Lying To You. Steve Hofstetter

Khufu says...

"no one has ever ordered a pizza by accident." this statement is untrue, my buddy once ordered a pizza on an app like door dash and it just gave him an error. So he tried again.. error.. so I tried a different company, error.. this continued for a while until it finally worked. 30 mins later 3 different pizza delivery guys converged on his house and it was hilarious. At least 3 accidental orders there.

My 50 Cal Exploded

Maybe what these people mean (whether they know it or not) is that their belief in a god gave them the false(yet real enough to them) confidence that they would be ok, which gave them the courage and energy to push through and do all the things to make sure they had the opportunity to have the medical staff fix them. It's like how a lot of people have religion to thank for getting sober and off the street, not because of the divine influence of the hand of god or some shit... some people just need the religious 'narrative' to help them keep moving forward, where others may not need it at all and not see the point.

because obviously if god can physically save this dude's life, then he would have also had the power to make that barrel survive the hot round which I'm sure the dude in question would have preferred.

God always gets the best press.

People love to credit him with saving them from near death despite it clearly being extreme efforts by skilled doctors that did, but never blame God when it was pure chance and bad luck that caused their mortal wounds.

To me, if God deserves credit, it's for the chance happening, the bad luck out of anyone's control, not the Herculean human efforts to repair the damage. If people really believed God intervenes, all Christians would be Christian Scientists or Jehovah's witnesses and refuse human medical treatments.

I think it would be better in person. might be a whole different kind of excitement to be basically sitting still (or sliding backward) then suddenly jump forward when you have no visual cues of anything changing. maybe even disconcerting.

James May's Tesla Model S has failed!

Khufu says...

have you seen the new Porsche 911? it has NO HOOD!

cloudballoon said:

The design flaw is not that the 12V conventional battery can die or lack of charger port. It's that you can't open the hood to replace it (or other parts of the engine) in a Tesla (or the Model S at least) when the 12V battery dies. Conventional car models use a MECHANICAL means to do that.

James May's Tesla Model S has failed!

Khufu says...

while the dismantling seems problematic, 1 hour is nothing when messing with body panels. I'm impressed.

but any car battery can die when left undriven and other cars don't have trickle charger ports installed from factory, you have to add those yourself. (and should)

Enhancing photorealism in video games

Khufu says...

while this is cool, it's really just forcing a specifically art-directed look of the game(texture detail, color grading) into a dashcam-quality, drab color-scheme version. The game was obviously going for a more film-inspired color grading meant to give you the impression of a hot summer day in LA, not a cold German day seen through a raw ccd limited dashcam. cool that it's this fast though!

just saw the bit at the end with the broader dataset used.. that's more like it, keeps the vibrant color but does improve realism of things like road look.

ETERNALS Official Teaser (2021) Angelina Jolie, Marvel Movie

Khufu says...

why is this titled "ETERNALS Official Teaser" if it was like 50 movies shown? should have been "Marvel about to explode with movie build-up due to covid"

How To NOT Use A Roundabout

Khufu says...

they have these long-ass medians to prevent people from being confused about where to go but somehow these people are so lost they cross to the wrong side of the road LONG before the actual roundabout.. what a strange reaction.

skip to 10:30 if you want an explanation of wtf is going on, I kept skipping around thinkin I had missed it, then realized... nope. They just show 10 mins of people doing this task before ever explaining the process.
