Doug Stanhope on the Fear Spread by American News
I love you.
>> ^handmethekeysyou:
While I think it's important to do so, I can't help but take some issue with people in media badmouthing The Media. So, just so I feel I've done my due diligence, here are a few ways that Doug Stanhope is manipulating you and some of the media stereotypes being relied upon/reinforced by this video:
• Well dressed, clean cut, deep voiced, mature looking man sitting at desk with stately edifice in the background introduces Doug, lending credence to what you are about to hear.
• B-roll shots of small town Americana position Doug as an everyman. This helps us see Doug as just a perceptive member of the group of people he's attacking. This is reinforced by the set he appears in: a small, folksy looking home, potentially a trailer.
• Three camera shoot allows jump cuts to tighter or wider shots, adding a kinetic feel, keeping your attention, even when the monologue may be lagging.
Bullet-point media stereotypes:
• Unattractive people are unsatisfactory mates.
• People who aren't terribly exciting are unsatisfactory mates.
• Being average in any way is, ipso facto, undesirable.
• Identification as an alcoholic and appearance with drink (a delicious looking manhattan). This relies on the oft-reinforced concept of drug users as people who see the world differently, almost always "correctly".
Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry on The 10 Commandments
The Hitchens video was heavily edited to look as if he's storming off for no real reason. I'm getting the impression that we're missing some important pieces of content that she may have said to set him off.
This "interview" could've been her way at getting back at those two for tearing her arguments apart in the fair, unedited debate they had where the entire group of undecided viewers were convinced by Hitchens/Fry's arguments over hers. I can't find a link to the debate, but it's definitely worth a view for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Clever Dog!
Hehe. I love how angry he got when the horse stopped.
Zach Galifianakis warming up 2 watch "Ellen" in the audience
This is actually a very old video. I saw this several years ago, wayyy before Zach boomed in popularity this year. And I was originally under the impression that he was there with his girlfriend, of whom is a big fan of the show.
EDIT: I'm assuming it's the girl next to him, who looks almost equally as awkward.
Conan & Will Ferrell Rock Freebird on His Last Show
Conan plays a mean guitar. Back on his old show he's played with The White Stripes before.
How (Not) to Catch a Huntsman Spider
What a crappy camera assistant! Screaming and dropping the camera is for amateurs.
Conan's Bugatti Veyron Mouse
The fact that this segment was completely taken out (cut immediately after the hamster bit) on Hulu and all other internet rebroadcast makes me feel that this was pretty genuine and real.
Weed? At a concert??
I recommend going to a White Stripes concert to anyone who enjoys their music, because their audience is the strangest blend of people I've ever seen, all of whom are stoned out of their minds by the end of the show.
You've got old-time cowboys who enjoy their twangy country angle, hipsters, soccer moms and children who enjoy the fact that they're on MTV, potheads, etc etc, the list goes on and on. Pretty much any type of person at any age can be found there. All stoned.
Plus, they put on an amazing show. But that's besides the point.
Guide to Asian Emoticons
So I went to her youtube page, and it turns out she really likes crazy punk bands. She even has an interview with Leftover Crack in a shithole club in Philly.
Avatar: The Making of the Bootleg
I need 10 dollars, too.
Now I know what I need to do.

Tom Cruise Knows How To Negotiate
Yeah, it's not the jumping couch incident for me.
I never cared for the guy, but the day when I started to really hate him was when I heard his tirade against modern medicine. It makes me puke that he used his fame to spread such damaging and unhealthy misinformation, and I fear the thought of how many people took it to heart. This was before I found out about his religious views, of which sealed the deal. Now I won't go near any film he signs on.
Frodo vs. Harry Potter
The butt won?! I guess that makes sense.
Luke Skywalker vs Neo
I love those sound effects. This whole thing reminds me of what I daydreamed about as a kid.
Michael Cera Delivers the Rape
It's from Extreme Movie. It's a terrible, straight-to-dvd crapfest that I'm sure Cera regrets signing on to. This is the only good scene from the whole flick.
