First suggestion: Be able to search blogs, not just videos

Second suggestion: Emoticons. Would it be VideoSifty to have emoticons in comments? Nothing too fancy, but simple emoticons of things like a smile face, winking face, laughing face, rolling eyes face, etc.

We really need a better way to organize videosift blog posts, to easily re-promote older posts on similar topics.

If its alright with you, allow me a day with this blog and I'll compile all the ideas into this one. Unfortunately I've got to get ready to go to my class but I'll be back around 3:30. Organizing is definately my forte given that I'm bored and need something to do (or procrasting what I should be doing, like school work...blasted Physics 2325)

Not long ago I had suggested a message board format to organize the different topics.

While that would organize it well, I'm fond of this bloggy format so people don't get the idea that they can spam it up -- as it is now, it looks more like a community-organized front page rather than a message board

- Search function for blogs (similar to the video search function.

- Emoticons for comments - Kept simple as to not cause comments to look like a message board (e.g. no signatures).

- A way to keep active blogs on the side of the window, just like there is a top 15 for videos. This will keep each user interested in the most popular blogs without having to force the blog front page to show only very active blogs instead of the newest.

- Graphical representation of statistics over a certain period of time, e.g. new posts per hour, votes per hour, submitted videos per hour, etc (suggestion made by gold-star member joedirt).

- More functionality added to Recent Comments, specifically the categories of "Blog Comments - Chrono" and "Blog Comments - Threaded" (suggestion made by gold-star member joedirt).

- More listing of "banned" or "discarded" videos, as much or more of a list of 50 titles instead of the current 5 (suggestion made by 100-star member mlx).

- More email notifications or at least the ability to request email notifications if a video has been changed (published, discarded, voted) or if there was a comment added to the video (suggestion made by 100-star member dag)

- Auto-search function on the title or tags listed in a video to check for dupes before submission (suggestion made by 100-star member dag).

- Minor HTML Change - When a video is being submitted, the button says "Submit Story" rather than "Submit Video" (suggestion made by gold-star member SnakePlissken).

- Private Message functionality between users

Hmm, I sort of feel the same way about private messages that I do about chat. It could detract from commenting which is a big pull for me on the site.

I think if you really want to chat privately, put your email in your profile and go for it. If a member doesn't have an email there, I make the assumption that they are probably not interested.

Alot of great comments would never be heard by all if there were private messaging. One thing that's great about this community is that it's all public. I wouldn't mind a chat room mind you, but no private messaging.
It's fun to check in and go straight to comments to hear what the buzz is about.

I do the same thing, swampgirl. Can we get a video thumbnail on the message pages? Can the thumbnail link to "bigger" in a new window? That would really rock.

And by the way, private messages can get you in deep trouble on the Internets. I'm jes' sayin'...

- Ability to have options to customize the front page (e.g. 20 videos per page, 30 videos per page..etc)

- Ability to edit blog entries (just for you mlx) =D

- Allow an option to quote somebody in comments so that it creates a professional quote that shows when the quote was said and who said it
