The Dupe Tab
Dupeof is a great improvement to the sift. And Nibiyabi has a great idea with the dupe playlist.
But, I'd like to see a separate *dupe channel (or even a separate tab) and invocation. Let it be for silver star or higher (it's the same star level for *.discussing a dupe that you don't have privileges to discard). It should remove the submitted video from the queue without discarding it (the same as discuss) so those with dupeof ability can return it if it's deemed not a dupe.
It is a bit clunky right now. Dupes get discarded, hopefully added to a playlist that hopefully you are a group member of and then hopefully diamonds are looking at that playlist etc.
If we have many hands making light work with *dupe sending everything to one dupe tab, then diamonds and higher can go to that tab or channel and dupeof as they see fit.

nibiyabiGreat idea. A dupe tab could be made visible to silver and higher and would get a lot more dupes both noticed and fixed. *notdupe could be a gold star ability and *dupeof would automatically remove it from the dupe tab.

Hmm, I don't know. Eventually the backlog of dupes will be gone - and I wouldn't want the dupeof to take the place of good checking before submission.
nibiyabi^Hard to do a good checking when it shows four or five related videos. How about expanding it to 10 or 15 possible dupes?
DeanoI won't comment on your post since I'm undecided about the whole dupe thing but if you were going to do something new would it be nice if you have videos paired up side by side for diamonds to view? Then have a big button and some of that crazy AJAX animation going on.
Now lord knows how you would get them paired up in the first place but I'm just thinking out loud here. Don't hate me!

burdturglerI see a lot of diamonds answering the call with the playlist and getting their dupeof on, so this isn't a huge deal. In fact, people are just banging out dupeof left and right and the playlist only has 4 videos right now. Which is pretty damned amazing I think. And, after slaving over 3.3, I'm sure Lucky isn't savoring the idea of adding invocations, etc.
So, right now, I think it's actually working out good. Gold stars are discarding dupes, those posts are getting added to the playlist, diamonds+ are coming by and merging them. But, since dupes are inevitably going to be a permanent part of Siftopia, whether people search before posting or not, and since dupeof is the way to deal with it, I think we should find some way of integrating that into the site. Eventually.
