Sifting as a Satement
I'm so guilty.
I've gone back through my sifts, and noticed a very common theme: ME
I think I've been sifting videos that say something about who I am, and what my views are. As you may know, almost all of my sifts are political in nature, and almost always represent my POV.
I think this is kinda crappy.
While there obviously are incredibly important things going on on this pale blue dot that I'd like others to see or hear or understand, but I think I'm also being selfish and not doing the sift any favors by airing my politics here.
Do other people feel they sift in a similar fashion, of making political or social statements with the videos they submit?
Has the sift been this historically bitchy and rude, or is this a relatively new thing, possibly fueled by events such as the US POTUS election and the Israel/Gaza conflict?
ack!

Actually, I've always been pretty cool.
What, is this supposed to be unusual, or bad?
When you sift a video, you're taking the effort to dig it up and show it to people, it's going to be an expression of what you think is interesting or important, period.
I'd say doing otherwise is just whoring for star points, and that seems a bit silly.
you know what you know and you do know yourself. As long as you're open to expanding your knowledge and sharing what you've learned with everybody else, I don't see any problem with this.
altruism only exists cause it feels good...
You can be like John or Paul. John wrote songs about his own experiences, Paul wrote songs about other things. I guess it boils down to if you prefer Help! or Maxwell's Silver Hammer. There's nothing wrong with either (but John was a better songwriter).
I think people airing their thoughts and beliefs on the Sift contributes a great deal to the experience. But don't neglect your own depth and diversity, the Music, Art, Engineering, History, Cooking, Wheels, and on and on. Don't short change us by not sharing your diverse interests with us. Your queues are heavy on the politics, and that's cool, but there's other stuff in there too.
The Sift has been "bitchy and rude" at times, and that's normal. I can't see that you're doing anything to exacerbate that or otherwise hurt the Sift. Good questions for all of us to ask ourselves I think.

Or you can be like Ringo and fuck up a perfectly good album with "Octopus's Garden"

Oh, them's fightin' words!
Sifting is one big coming out (as I said before). It's good to look at all your sifts/comments, reflect on the pattern and think of its fortes and weaknesses and then decide to change the focus or deepen it.
And indeed, it's good to look at all channels/topics: this makes you a more broadly developed person:)
What about George?
Look at the majority of the user base, youngling. Angry naive liberal atheists. Why do you ask questions you already know the answer to?

Octopus's Garden is a work of genius. It's the happiest song ever written.
