New ideas: ShortSift(tm) tag? "Absurd" collective?
Hi!
Two things I was just thinking about today:
* We have a "Long" tag... what about a "ShortSift(tm)" tag for things that are 10 seconds or less? Might be fun if you're just looking for shorties to watch.
* Do we have an Absurd collective? I have some things that don't quallify, for some reason, for "did that just happen," and might be better suited for an Absurd collective. Just a thought.
Yaar!

I've always thought the "Did that just happen?" collective was too broad. It seems to be the default for when things don't fit somewhere else. I'd like to see it dissolved into two categories - Jaw dropping videos and WTF videos, cuz they're definitely not the same thing.
Here's is the first paragraph from a Wikipedia article on "Absurdism":
"Absurdism is a philosophy stating that the efforts of humanity to find meaning in the universe will ultimately fail (and, hence, are absurd) because no such meaning exists, at least in relation to humanity. The word Absurd in this context does not mean "logically impossible", but rather "humanly impossible".[1] Absurdism is related to Existentialism, though should not be confused with it. Absurdism as a concept has its roots in the 19th century Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard. Absurdism as a belief system was born of the Existentialist movement when the French philosopher and writer Albert Camus broke from that philosophical line of thought and published his manuscript The Myth of Sisyphus. The aftermath of World War II provided the social environment that stimulated absurdist views and allowed for their popular development, especially in the devastated country of France."

Since it is a philosophy, I remembered a discussion about a Philosophy Collective. And guess who suggested that previously?

I'm amused that this has become circular.
It's been twenty-five years since I studied the Theater of the Absurd in a Playwrights and Poets course in high school. We read "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead."
a collective of the absurd...
I'm not sure exactly what would go in there, and whether it would be entertaining, unless it was WTF videos. I picture like a collective of people boringly discussing the meaningless of life and our actions (including debating whether a collective of the absurd is a good idea).
Maybe I'm being cynical, but what sort of range of posts would go in there? Monty Python to SpongeBob SquarePants?
I think the short tag would be a great idea
I see WTF as being: Did that REALLY just happen?
While Absurd as being: What the heck is that thing?
I agree with omnithrope and would actually form the collective if he likes, however if you want that and I'll save it for your gold star.
I vote for *short too.
I'm kinda waiting around for a general Philosophy collective, "Cogito Ergo Sift." Feel free to start an Absurd collective, snipe!
mini?
wee?
nano?
I think "short" tags would be good, but we hardly have any videos under 10 seconds. There are some, but not nearly as many as the amount of videos that qualify for *long.
Invocations (long) cannot be executed by snaremop because snaremop is not a Gold Star member - ignoring requests.
Ten more to go snaremop . . .
