I know we have Newest Appreciated Comments but...

Would it not be cool (not to mention adding some variety and highlighting the social hubbub going on behind the videos) if we could promote comments to the front page?

I often find interesting new videos via Newest Appreciated Comments but if you could promote a cool comment it would be clearer with less truncated text and allow particularly outstanding contributions to be fully appreciated.

I'd suggest only one comment at a time hogging space so as to avoid the page becoming too wordy. Nor could you self-promote.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I like it too. how do you see it working, would it promote to a panel in the sidebar? Or are you thinking the comment itself would somehow be featured in the main content area of the front page, where the videos are?

Yes I was thinking it would be like the latter, in the main area. The sidebar is already host to Newest Appreciated Comments. That's why I would suggest only one comment at a time to avoid wordiness though well judged truncation could allow multiple entries if you like.
It would add variety and break up the list of promoted videos as well.

I too like the idea. We could have a semi-small panel at or near the top of the page that just always displays the most recent highest voted comment.

Not the ability to promote though? Might encourage the purchase of powerpoints?

@Deano: I think that would just introduce too many technical hurdles.

How do you promote another comment? Would we add another link to each comment labeled "promote"? It would be best to execute it as a comment invocation, but how do you use a comment to invoke action on another comment?

We'd need to allow display one at a time, so would a second, overlapping promote cause the first to become unpromoted or does it cause an error like "there is already another comment promoted right now..." or do we rotate all currently promoted comments or...?

Every choice we'd need to make would come with too many complications and undesirable side effects.
