How to Join a Cult (Or Die Trying)

With all the fuss involving the mass exodus of certain long-time posters, first-time callers, I decided to maneuver my annoying black arrow over to videocu.lt. I thought it best to see what all the hubbub is bubbing about.

First of all, I think it's a great idea for anybody who has a perspective that is artistic, bordering on narcissistic. And believe me, that's not an insult. *sticks my nose in the air* Having a smaller collection of specific videos, suited to your tastes, can be a rewarding experience. That being said, it doesn't make up for the glaring "downvote" you notice upon arrival: the layout.

The layout is something that would make a fashion designer throw up his skinny half-cream mocha latte onto some anorexic teenager who starved herself all the way from Sheboygan to NYC, only to realize that the City is not for everyone. And I feel bad for her, I guess. But at least she tried. Some day, when she's back in Sheboygan and pumping out a few babies, letting her figure balloon to the size and shape of her 1970's olive-colored sofa, she'll look back on her modeling days with wistful melancholy. Anyway...

What was I talking about? Oh yeah...

I understand the reasoning behind the move to videocu.lt, but I just wish they'd clean it up a bit. It's not kosher to invite all of your friends to a house-warming party, then surprise them with a foyer-view of the moving boxes and packing peanuts strewn about your new place. Come on, guys! Spruce things up a bit!

i don't give a fuck how it looks, content's more important and so far i haven't been disappointed, found a lot of new and interesting stuff there (no wonder with mink, farhad and eklek being the driving force of the site), posted some myself. it's hard to compare both sites anyway as their purpose and philosophy behind them differ from each other. i see vs as an elaborate social game for video junkies, while videocu.lt has yet to developed its distinct personality. we'll see where it takes us. meanwhile, we're just having a lot of fun posting stuff that might not be generaly accepted as popular but suits our individual tastes.

Thinker you're being a drama queen sarcastic twit, as usual. I wish you boys men with no girlfriends would lighten the hell up. Saying "mass exodus" is a bit thick too broad a picture to be painting about something as insignificant as a few people leaving a random video sifting site on a creation that didn't even exist when most of us were born, is it not?

Swampgirl, I haven't had a serious thought in my head or words in my mouth since I was about 17 years old, when I thought the world was a serious place. Sarcasm is my heroin, and videosift is just another dealer.

Thinker brings up a good point, but the only reason I say so is that in the past MINK has insulted and complained to high heaven about how the VideoSift UI is/was so unbearable, so it's quite... unexpected that he takes on a site of his own (with others) and is so comfortable with such an... interesting design.

What say you, MINK, you web designer extraordinaire? (Besides "your mum" that is. )

Obviously it looks like shit so people don't sign up and ruin it.

UI and look don't mean anything if you don't have the content to back it up.

My ideal look and UI would just be a black screen filled with static that occasionally comes alive to show you something amazing that astounds you and blows your mind, just as you realize it, it fades away into the ether, never to be seen again. Your memory of seeing it staying with you for years afterwards, memory elevating it to fantasy that can never be fulfilled with repeating views.

Excellent point.

That last paragraph was quite interesting. If that's your idea of the perfect moment, I can see why you'd leave this site to recapture those lost feelings.
