Miss the old way of showing OLD videos that just got ten/10 votes to first page?

  (10 votes)
  (0 votes)
  (2 votes)

A total of 12 votes have been cast on this poll.

I know they can be shown in the older pages depending on the videos that were submitted, but still annoying when there are currently about 7,590 pages. What do you guys think? I still like the pre-v5.0's ten/10 votes to FIRST page on the home page for NEW videos (newest to oldest).

Thank you in advance.

Not sure what you mean, @ant. In v5.0 we didn't change anything about how videos are listed on the front page.

We've had both listing options of Hotness or Newness for a few years. Just click Newness to list all published videos in order by most recently published (with 10 votes) if that's your preference.

Dag/Lucky760, go find an old submitted video (e.g., a year old is a good age) that has not been bumped to the front page with less ten votes. Vote it up to ten votes so it can be go to the front page. However, it is not on the front page. It is buried on page #<whatever number beside 1>.

Dear Ant,

Can you please confirm you have "Newness" selected on the front page?

That listing is without any doubt displaying published videos in order of newest publish date. This is the listing of the latest published 15 videos as directly fetched within the database:
Best Drive Thru Prank Ever
Porn Sites (RealLifeDickParty.com) - Aziz Ansari
Everything Wrong With The Hunger Games In 4 Minutes Or Less
Close Your Eyes and Fall Down
You ever get so broke, that it just becomes funny to you?
Russian Extreme Sport Mountain Ball Ends In Tragedy
The wobbly beam of the Vela pulsar
Chinese Don't Need No Stinkin' Cannons
Tosh.0 - Uncle and Niece Talk
Male to Female - 3 Year Timeline
The Ronettes - Baby I Love You (Isolated Vocals)
New Changes to YouTube?
The new russian 5th generation stealth fighter Sukhoi T-50
Atheist TV host boots Christian for calling raped kid "evil"
Star Trek TNG - Test Footage

That listing is identical to the videos currently displayed in the front page's Newness listing.

If you'd like, you can continue pretending I'm not here and respond to Dag again, but I'm sitting right here.

Sincerely,
lucky760 (not Dag)

Yes, I always used Newness videos to see for recently promoted, 10+ votes, etc. I see most of those, but those were recently submitted. What about the VERY old ones like months and years old (submitted long ago) and just got ten or more votes?

lucky760 says...

Ah, thank you for clarifying. I had no idea *that* was what you meant...

Yes, it does look like there is an issue with that. From what I can tell all published videos have a "submitted" date identical to the "published" date, which means something is broken in siftbot and it's causing the date of submission to change to the date of publishing.

Will look into this asap! Thanks, Dag!

Okay- As it turns out, it was actually the other way around, wherein upon being published, a video's publish date was set to the original date of submission.

This is now fixed, so moving forward the Newness listing will order videos by *publish* date, and *not* by submission date.

ant says...

Hurray! I thought you guys changed that on purpose. Noticed the lack of many 10+ videos on front page since v5's release? [grin]

I've also just swept through all videos that had the published date matching the submission date and corrected them, so the front page should be fully back in proper order now.

Thanks for letting us know about this bug!

Now, we will all have to go back to v5's release date to catch up on the new videos we missed. [grin]
