I really don't get why people are so upset over the new xbox. Could someone elaborate why it's so bad? The online check-in really doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to me, and it's somewhat understandable since they moved to a completely digital distribution (games are just pre-loads to save bandwidth), while still allowing people to transfer their digital games. Granted, I don't really ever sell my used games (am i an odd one out for that?) I keep seeing people say MS is being anti-consumer... what are they doing exactly that's infuriating everyone so much? Looking for someone to please explain what I'm missing?

If we, the people, were smart, we'd stop crap like the new XBox by simply not buying it. Unfortunately we're happy to bend over and spread our cheeks for the privilege to pay to be allowed to play the newest Halo game as long as they, the corporations, think we should.
I still remember how upset people were over Steam and their online activation for HL2. It's standard practice now.

Because the Xbox 360 deal was pretty tolerable for it's time. Except for their ridiculous $50 annual fee to play peer-to-peer games online. . . Oh wait, Sony's doing that too now. Sony's just lucky that their dick move was completely overshadowed by Microsoft's incomparable dickery.

Depending on how recent this snapshot of wealth is, Bill Gates waffles back and forth between number 1 and number 2 in relation to the price of his Microsoft stock holdings. Recently he went back up to #1 but may have fallen again after the new Xbox was announced.

This video uses both (new one for the always-on controversy) and old one for the beer-robot. Which is OK, cause it's a comedy piece.

The first Kinect could do facial detection to login to a xbox live account, but it requires good lighting, and isn't very fast (for me, it could never get past calibration, so I don't use that feature- games work fine without it). The new one is supposed to do this (login) better, but also detects facial expressions in real time, like if the player is smiling.

Echoing the need for the change to "Lewis". That made me double-take as well.

Aside from that, did they say it was the Xbox 360 Kinect that could do facial detection? Because I know that is an intended feature for the XboxOne.

*quality, only that videosifters need to know (if they don't already) the evil of what has become Microsoft and what is the Xbox One. It's not a laughing matter.

I'm no console snob. I hate all consoles equally. They ruined PC gaming, afaic, even though the PC is a superior gaming platform. I've been cursing consoles since the Halo fiasco, when the game was made an XBox exclusive, destroying what was shaping up to be an incredible PC game. The console version and very-delayed PC port were just crap. Since then, most AAA PC game developers have been tripping over each other for a piece of the huge console market. Cross-platform development has taken it's toll on the PC versions of games, as games are designed for the lowest common denominator (consoles). The controls suck, the interfaces suck, the endless QTEs suck, the hand-holding sucks, the cover systems suck, the hide-and-wait healing sucks, the graphics suck, and most important of all, the gameplay sucks.

Thank FSM for indie developers who make PC games.

I've seen a long clip of this interview and it gets even sadder. I'm paraphrasing here but Don says "I heard from a guy who lived in a nuclear submarine. Now I can't empathize with him because I don't live on a Nuclear Submarine but I imagine I would be pretty disappointed I could not own an xbox one.
