Maps reveal hidden truths of the world's cities - BBC News
I'm Robert Muggah and I forgot to turn on the microphone right next to my mouth. Jokes aside, love these visualizations.
MGMT - When You Die (2017) / psychedelic treat
The visuals strongly remind me of those "magic eye" 3d illustrations. Very well executed.
In Saturn's Rings 8K (Narrated by LeVar Burton) 2018 Trailer
Japan is planning to film the 2020 Olympics in 8k@120fps and the cameras have been around for 3-4 years now. Multiple companies are working on 16k VR prototypes. 4k is generally pointless unless as I said you simply want "productive" realestate, or sit very close to the display. Because VR displays are so close to your eye the required resolution to match visual acuity is around 16k. My point wasn't anything to do with VR or games but rather the effective viewing distance from the screen(s).
"At 6 meters or 20 feet, a human eye with that performance is able to separate contours that are approximately 1.75 mm apart"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_acuity
6meters isn't a particular helpful distance for this argument but I'm sure you can do the math. 65" 4k display with 0.37mm pixel pitch would require a much closer distance to resolve the image properly. There is an advantage over 1080p but at normal viewing distances you won't be seeing all the detail of 4k.
source? i feel like there's a huge caveat to that. filming, editing, VFX, and displaying 16K is a long, long way away. 4K is already difficult and, honestly, rather pointless.
In Saturn's Rings 8K (Narrated by LeVar Burton) 2018 Trailer
It's entirely down to viewing distance and the viewer's vision. 4k is pointless at "normal" viewing distances. Whereas you need something like 16k to match visual acuity in VR. Unless you're simply interested in screen real estate.
even as a file, it would probably chug here and there, depending on the compression and how beefy your machine is. 8K is fucking HUGE and SO unnecessary unless you have an imax theatre in your living room.

Cancer Screening Myths
Pseudoscience? You cannot get more scientific than reading from the actual study - which is what this video is. The visuals are the actual text from the study, which is published in an actual medical journal, by non-vegan scientists. In the corner of the video it even lists which article it is so you can go and read it for yourself.
Every single video on nutritionfacts.org is in this format, there is nothing on the site that is not supported by quality science, and I challenge you to prove otherwise.
I would take everything said in this video with a truckload of salt.
NutritionFacts.org are a pseudo-scientific organisation that push the idea that cancer can be cured with a vegan diet.
Solo Sabotage Trailer
This trailer is crap. It's all SFX, not a single plot point to convey. Haven't we all seen enough SFX for a life time of visual "EXICITEMENT!!!"? As awesomely executed as these SFX shots are, I still think plot is king and these trailers/teasers do nothing for me, no mystery, no intrigue, no world-building.
Perception of programming versus the reality
This is so true...
Programming without the internet was tough. I remember my early years of programming in ASM and C/C++. The only internet access was via BBSes and Trumpet Winsock. Your only source of real help was from Usenet groups and questionable help files. There was no such thing as Intelli-sense (as we know it now) or auto-complete; you pretty much had to memorize the parameters for all Win32 API calls and the STL for C++ was brutal to use. Programming nowadays is relatively easy in comparison - pretty much anyone can code thanks to the internet and fantastic online resources. Heck, my 7 yr old daughter is learning to write code using a Scratch-derived visual programming language and Cosmo (look it up, it's awesome). I started "coding" at 8 by typing out programs from an adventure game programming book, in BASIC (think old Infocom games, like Wishbringer/Zork, etc).
The challenge in today's programming environment is the rapid pace of change. It's so f'n hard to keep up with every new toolkit, platform, library, programming language enhancements, etc.
Filmmaking Methods That R Ruining Movies: Methods of Madness
pretty much everything he said about CGI are wrong. like saying it's called "special effects". it's called "visual effects". "special effects" are practical effects.
How Star Wars The Last Jedi Should Have Ended
I thought it should have ended with ewoks dancing in the redwoods (if not one movie earlier)...because the entire series jumped the shark after that to me.
Imo, #4-6 (episode 1-3) were too geared for kids and were visually spectacular but devoid of substance, #7 &8 were all about member berries.

Han Solo movie trailer
I was annoyed at Rogue One having a passive protagonist....
I felt pretty burned by paying money to see TLJ's disconnected train-wreck plot....
Casting wasn't the problem in either film. Amazing CG visuals around greenscreen actors can't fix weak writing.
Hmm... not sold yet. Looks pretty, but so did Rogue One. A bit worrying that they barely showed Solo in his own movie....

How Not to Do Brownies
Newtboy, are you telling me you've never met anyone first hand that has had a psychedelic-type experience on edibles or just plain smoking flowers? Because although rare, it's still a thing. I've had some, very close to what this guy describes, and a friend of mine has them routinely. Are they strictly speaking hallucinations like under a psychotic episode? Not in my case, since the 'visualization' was in my mind's eye, and I wasn't literally seeing something appear in front of me, but it was psychedelic nonetheless.
