Another high ranking Republican who is apparently the best friend of another convicted child porn trader has quit in disgrace.

Republican Ray Holmberg, who rose to become one of the state’s most powerful lawmakers in a career that spanned 46 years, said he would resign effective June 1. His term was scheduled to end on Nov. 30 and he already had announced in March that it would be his last.

“Recent news stories have become a distraction for the important work of the legislative assembly during its interim meetings,” Holmberg, 79, said in a statement announcing his resignation. “I want to do what I can, within my power, to lessen such distractions.”

Maybe don’t be friends with convicted child molesters and kiddie porn purveyors, that might be a good way to lessen, even avoid such distractions…but that would mean ostracizing some of their Republican colleagues and the party leader(s).

All sarcasm aside, your argument is extremely flawed. Conquerors tend to lay waste to the societies they conquer, not always in terms of total lives lost, but in terms of cultural death. Grocery shopping has become too complicated lately it seems to me. Used to be not all that long ago that you just got what looked good at the big chain grocery store and then made the odd trip to specialist shops for particular things on occasion. Whole Foods does have some good stuff, but it's way too expensive to just buy everything there. Trader Joe's has decent quality and prices but very limited selection. The local hippy organic grocery store/coop is in a similar situation to Whole Foods but with different stuff, and then there is the still the big chain grocery store with good prices on things that don't really vary much in quality. Oh, and of course there are still the delis and butcher shops and whatever else for the particular things they do well. Also, they went and knocked down the Pick 'n' Save that was three blocks away and are building a Metro Mart, which in my experience is exactly the same thing but with fancier decor and higher prices.

I have like five different grocery lists now. So, the end result is that I actually have access to much higher quality food at not unreasonable prices and yet somehow I'm ending up eating frozen pizza a lot more than I used to when it was Pick and Save or nothing.

This is why I love Trader Joe's... they have a lot of decent wines in the $5-10 range. I've definitely had really good bottles of wine I've bought directly from wineries in Napa or Napa #2 - Paso Robles... but if I'm buying off a shelf in a store there really is no reason to shell out that sort of cash, too many variables.

What I fail to understand is how no one was charged with anything (again). In 2008 the Societe General "lost" 4.9 bilion Euros and the blamed it all on one guy, Jerome Kerviel, a junior trader who supposedly could gamble around with nearly five billion Euros without cheking in with his superiors.

Wait, I thought the stock scandal was because elected officials could do insider trading and it wasn't illegal. It was always illegal for the staff members.

What I hear in this is that the on-line database of personal stock transactions is being repealed for the staffers. The database will be there for the elected officials.

And it is still illegal to do insider trader for elected officials -- which is the real disgusting thing which the stock act took care of.

I tried some UNREAL peanut butter cups last night.

-They tasted much better than Reese's, but not as good as Trader Joe's. (This might have something to do with the chocolate to peanut butter ratio - Trader Joe's are 'minis') They were good, but not so good that they elicit an "OMG."
-Calories clocked in at 190, which I believe is about 100 less than Recee's
-Ingredients are much better.
-The portion size seemed smaller, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for supersized Americans
-They are about 50 cents more than regular candy bars.

Verdict: Tasty, but there are better options out there if you are going to indulge in calorie rich treats.
