one of the many faces of racism in america

Lawdeedaw says...

@VoodooV

You notice how newtboy assumes so much, but then attacks people for assuming (Claiming only his logic is almost always correct.)

Case in point--a corporation that hires racist people probably loathes it? Why would they give a fuck if it didn't involve money? They almost NEVER do otherwise.

We see nearly EVERY corporation use shady shit. They try to shirk tax obligations via foreign accounts. They buy elected officials to do their bidding while screwing others. BP blew people up and didn't give a fuck. Toyota burned people alive for a profit. Rick Scott, Governor of Florida, stole billions of tax dollars from a program to help the needy.

The Salvation Army paid a politician 90K a year just to do no work, and they are not even supposed to be a political organization. They use sweat shops that abuse children...

The COMPANY, not the "boss", makes choices. Yet we are expected to believe that the emotionless company gives a fuck about anything besides money.

But to point out this is assuming in Newt's eyes. Silly, isn't it?

Interesting.
I'll be consistent and say yes, it's "fair" that she lost her job, as it's clear that her employers have an often stated interest in her reproductive system and firm rules on how it may or may not be altered, as a part of their faith, and properly following that faith is essential for being a good teacher...in their eyes. That means that having artificial insemination makes her a bad roll model, and being a near perfect roll model is a major part of the job.
EDIT: I wonder who ratted her out? She DID have a right to keep her personal medical information private, and those with access have a legal obligation to keep it private as well, so she DID get ratted on.

Also interesting was your comment/position there, which seemed to mirror mine here. In part, you said....
" Freedom cuts both ways, you're free to do what you want..but if you don't act within some semblance of societal norms and what is considered decent, no one is going to want to be around you or work with you. "
The business not wanting to work with him is what happened here, but now you seem to take issue with that, and you take serious issue with others boycotting the company (which didn't actually happen here, but you've been complaining that it did) while back then you seemed to be celebrating it. What changed besides the reason someone lost their job?

Swing Hip Hop. Or Crump Swing. Dance Battle!

poolcleaner says...

I understand your fear. I did swing/lindy hop in high school and I was fine in practice and at clubs, but on stage my hands were a river of sweat. I think I lost grip at least twice in my first couple dances. I was more embarrassed because my partner had to hold onto my sweaty hands. Yuck.

My ultimate social terror is that one of these fucking things will somehow spontaneously generate itself around me, obliging me to improvise some sort of limb-flailing bullshit in response.

I don't know what sequence of events could lead to that actually happening, but the sight of two lines of people dancing at each other brings me out in the fucking sweats nevertheless.

Rats Save Humans From Landmines - Extraordinary Animals

I'll still push for it; I was half-joking when I told them that anyway.

I am still in the field, just not clearing the mines. I work with the communities to educate them on the dangers and to identify the suspected locations of mines and explosives. My teams and I are the eyes and ears of the operation, the clearance guys are just the grunts.

I've already seen my fair share of UXO. Even had a guy bring a mortar to a risk education session as we were discussing how you shouldn't touch or move them; that was fun.

So far, not as stressful as I imagined. What I hear from the clearance guys is that it's actually a pretty boring job. Accidents are very rare if you do it right. In order to keep the risk to basically zero, it is a very slow, deliberate, and methodical process. So, basically, they wear heavy gear, sweat all day, and move through an area with a fine-toothed comb.

Probably still worth a shot to see the training regime etc and whether it could be adapted to local species.

Kudos by the way, even though you're not working in the field, must be a hell of a high stress job.

I honestly don't understand your point about Cindy. I don't get the feeling that she is dancing off the pounds. This feels like a BBW jerk off vid. They do exist.

If she is celebrating her own sexuality, good for her.

As for your claim that I am blind to representations of women in the media, you have said that to me before. You were wrong before, you are wrong now. There are numerous studies that show that women are underrepresented in the media. There are numerous studies proving that women's movie and TV careers are severely circumscribed when they reach a certain age. Without breaking a sweat, I can name a dozen sitcoms starring fat men with slender to average wives and two that star(red) women of size -- Roseanne and Mike and Molly. And this just sitcoms.

I know there is nothing I can say about this subject, because I believe you to be willfully blind about the facts.

And yes, as I always do, I acknowledge that the unreasonable standards of beauty that women are held to is happening more and more to men. I do not think that is a good thing. It is a spreading cancer. Ignoring that is happens to women doesn't stop it happening to men.

And I hate Magic Mike I and II. Stupid plot, stupid dialogue, boring as shit and not enough dancing . The Full Monty now? OH yeah! Fat blokes, skinny blokes, gay blokes, old blokes, ginger blokes..... That is a movie that celebrates life and interpersonal relationships.

So, you would have been OK if someone talked about the ugly, fat woman dancing with (or without) the over sexualized male cheerleaders? ;-)
Like her....

I don't think that's right.

On a more serious note, if you are only seeing perfect, thin, over sexualized women in the media, I think that's on you for only choosing those types of programs.
EDIT: Oh, and the movie you want is Magic Mike.

What's the difference between God and a Democrat?

A: God knows He's not a Democrat.
------------------------------------------
You might be a liberal if…

you break out in a cold sweat at the mention of the Constitution.

you believe the Constitution is living but unborn babies aren’t.

you believe that a democrat freed the slaves and a republican created the KKK.

you abhor censorship unless it’s censoring race, religion, Conservatism, Western culture or Rush Limbaugh.

you believe 59% of whites who voted for Romney are racists but 96% of blacks who voted for Obama are not.

So these two Jews are in Dachau looking at all the scenes of torture and death surrounding them when one cries out "Oh God, this can't get any worse!" Just then, the cloudy heavens open up and it starts raining scorpions.

"Thank you, God!" he cries out in joy.

"Why are you thanking God for THIS?" the other Jew asks in despair.

"Because -- free scorpions!" he replies.

Your turn, Bob.

That's so fascinating to me. You're clearly only looking at all the couples from one perspective: American males are shit and Chinese males are wonderful.

Try considering it from both points of view in both couples. The Chinese girl forces her boyfriend to hand over all his money even though he clearly doesn't want to. In order to appease his ball-and-chain, the Chinese guy has to bribe her with a purse. The Chinese girl forces her guy to hold her purse and suffer through shopping with her. The Chinese father-in-law is overtly overbearing and controlling. Chinese couples dump off their babies with in-laws to live free of their burden.

It's not racist to joke about American males being infamously fearful of commitment. In America there are endless references in popular culture to that aspect of American society all the time. Does that make racist the producers of such content?

It's also very commonplace for couples in America to get divorced. Would it have been racist if they'd joked about Americans divorcing versus Chinese staying together despite being miserable?

It's a matter of facts, and pointing out facts in a humorous (to some) way is not a racist act.

And the whole "fucking bitch" line was mostly an over-exaggeration for comedic effect, and it worked. But the fact remains that it's not uncommon for Americans to really feel that way about their SO picking off their plate. (Like I said, I've seen worse than a verbal insult in the form of a physical attack.) Whereas it's ostensibly more uncommon in China.

bareboards2 says...

All true.

But my beef is that why is "sexiness" any part of this AT ALL?

Why isn't it enought that this is about joy of movement? Hanging with your friends? The joy of sweat? Being alive in the body that you have?

"Sexy" has nothing to do with any of those concepts.

My proof? Drop that one "foxy" comment. Change the title. Nothing else needs to be done.

This is a GREAT video that has been subtly hamstrung.

I had some similar questions. I agree that the campaign name may be problematic. I'm not excusing that aspect of it, but I'm wondering if Sport England's goal isn't partly to encourage younger girls to have a better body image, and also maybe to suggest that sexiness doesn't need to exclusively be about makeup and famous supermodels, etc., but can also be about perseverance, confidence, and being active...?

Maybe our UK folk can tell us about whether the connotations of the word "girl" are different.

Fastest Breathing Dog in the World & Sounds Like Car Engine)

Sagemind says...

That isn't actually breathing. That is the dog's cooling system kicking in. Dogs don't sweat so they regulate their heat by breathing in cool air.

It's my uneducated opinion that this dog is working too hard during it's exercise and is having issues cooling off. She is "Overheating."
