Jackie Chan, WTF! Street Fighter Parody

Assassin's Creed Trailer

Mordhaus says...

Price of Persia made a large profit, but would you say it was a good movie? RE movies have done well, but I would say you would find most critics panned them badly. They certainly were not really related to the early RE games, other than biomod creatures and zombies. I wouldn't put the RE movies in the exact same category as Street Fighter, they aren't THAT bad.

I would also say that Milla had somewhat of a fanbase simply from the Fifth Element, Dazed and Confused, Zoolander, and The Messenger. I wouldn't say huge, but I was a fan of hers and I suffered through the first couple of RE movies simply because she was the female lead.

As far as games based on movie franchises, I would say mainly only Star Wars and LotR games have been really successful, although an argument could be made for the Lego games (Harry Potter, Batman, etc). There are some others that have been decent, but nothing spectacular I can recall off the top of my head.

As far as the worst conversion from game to movie, I would say it's a 3-way tie between Doom, Wing Commander, and Street Fighter.

I find it interesting that you allude to Resident Evil, but put it in the same category as Street Fighter. I find the RE movies WAY better than the games, and they've certainly made money. Milla didn't have much of a fanbase when that series started...at least not as an actress.
Now movie games, games made from popular movie stories as tie in merchandise, nearly ALL suck....but I'm sure there's an exception to that rule as well.

Let's be realistic, there isn't a single video game movie that worked. Some made profits simply because of their name or because they booked a star with a built in fanbase (Angelina Jolie, Jake Gyllenhaal, Milla Jovovich), but the movies themselves sucked. Even Mortal Kombat was only good because it was soooo bad. I hesitate to even mention Street Fighter, Doom or Hitman 47. Street Fighter basically killed Van Damme's career, well that and a ton of coke.

Sadly, studios will keep making them because they can eke out a profit off the fanbase at least once or they will waste enough money that they can write it off their yearly profits.

Action Movie Kid (James) visits Nintendo Headquarters/HQ

artician says...

I'm starting to think he's creating a monster.

Anyway, Nintendo Headquarters! I got a tour of it in the early 90s. Fun story:

As a kid I used to take motor-home summer trips with my grandparents every year. At the beginning of the summer in 1992 (just prior to the SNES release of Street Fighter 2) my grandfather said that, through some contest via the Nintendo Power subscription they had been getting me for several years, I'd won a tour of the Nintendo Headquarters. So our trip that year became the drive up the coast of California, Oregon and Washington to visit them.
I hardly saw much, it was a pedestrian tour, but for me it was about as amazing as you'd expect for the time. I did however notice something odd about the experience, and through cousins and other family members I learned later that, most likely, my grandfather pulled a fast-one on everyone.
The likely reality that I was able to assemble myself over years later was that we just showed the fuck up! My grandfather went in and said "I just drove my grandson on a 4-day trip just to see you guys. You wouldn't deny us a tour after all that trouble, would you?"

insane street fighter 3 comback

Shepppard says...

This isn't even close to what the original was, the video's been replaced with a Street Fighter 4 video, not the original 3, where A Ken Vs. Chun Li match was being played. As such, i'm re-claiming the *dead on this.

The Matrix fight scene.... with 8 bit sound

Edgeman2112 says...

FALSE! There were some 16bit in there from Street Fighter II and Streets of Rage.

However, Neo getting a star from punching the asian dude in the face was a nice tough of authenticity.

Gracie Breakdown of Ronda Rousey Armbar vs. Miesha Tate 1

This breakdown was quite useful. I had no idea the complexity of the techniques used.

I thought Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat button-combos were hard, I'll never attempt an MMA videogame

Ch4 How Video Games Changed The World PDTV

alcom says...

Violence is touched on in the 90's at 43:00 but the focus is on the innovation of Street Fighter 2 and Doom and again it 47:45 with Mortal Kombat, Night Trap and the US Senate Hearings that led to the ESRB rating system. The pace of the narrative is still compelling as this was an important leap forward where game graphics could be represented by photographic imagery. Let's face it, the violence controversy formed a major part of the evolution of video games.

If you can't stand to hear about Columbine again, skip 52:00 to 54:00. Glen Beck chimes in on GTA at 1:11:00, but he doesn't steal the spotlight.

BATMAN vs DEADPOOL - Who will Win?

poolcleaner says...

When it comes down to a fair fight, Batman loses against anyone that doesn't just fight hand to hand and/or has a healing factor / super strength. But that's not what Batman's true power is. These idiot fanboys and their value system based on Street Fighter / Mortal Kombat bullshit. 3, 2, 1 -- Fight!

No, no, no, humans: His true strength delves into something which can only be whittled down via the collapse of Earth itself: Economic superiority. But even then, he's the Ritchie Rich of superheoes and would likely be able to rebuild his wealth on another planet.

All Batman needs to do is acquire an object of immense power and then employ it against whoever it is he's up against. He doesn't even need to fight but chooses to fight. If he's fighting Superman, obtain kryptonite -- or hell, gain access to the Siege Perilous and then just destroy the mind of whatever passes through it. He's friggin' Bruce Wayne and has a vast web of connections, bolstered by his income, which can get him ANYTHING.

Anyway. There are cosmic entities which have a greater pull of resources than Batman so let's match Batman's economic superiority (he's basically an army) against an actual threat backed by near infinite resources, such as the Negative Zone's Annihilus, Titan's Thanos, a time traveler like Kang the Conqueror, or the hive mind of the Phalanx.

Hell, I'd love to see Batman hack Galactus' base of operations and then invade and divert cosmic consonance.

But this pussy footing Batman VERSUS Deadpool is moot. Batman VERSUS anyone in a normal match up is stupid. Elevate your understanding.
