RNC 2020 & Kenosha: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
I can understand why you all still respond to @bobnight33. It's satisfying to smugly respond to him who, effectively, is a real live straw man. It makes you feel righteous (and frankly, it's pretty easy).
But really, Bob's been around for 11 years and has not conceded literally anything.
You're not changing his mind. Obviously. Why do you keep trying?
If anything, a new person who is (admittedly, astoundingly) undecided will see your vainglorious responses and dig their heels in to any existing conservative leanings.
Fake News Works
https://climatedataguide.ucar.edu/climate-data is one of the more complete and user friendly sites ive come across regarding climate
and...
Being the fastest growing city isn't directly related to the number of deaths or the temperature in the city. He's the one who made that assumption not bloomburg. I believe that's called a straw-man argument.
As far as deaths from extreme temps are concerned, it's telling that he didnt take the time to isolate extreme temperatures from the natural disasters chart. Here, let me isolate it for you using the same source. https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/number-of-deaths-from-natural-disasters?time=1936..2018&country=~Extreme%20temperature
Or, again using that same source: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/natural-disasters-by-type focus on ONLY the extreme temperatures and it's clear that the natural disasters of that type are on an upward trend.
"can't take back no hurt"
Bobby, Bobby, Bobby.
You know your black on black crime rates are nothing but made up propaganda, it's no where near 99%. That's white power propaganda you accepted without question...that's a form of racism itself....it's often referred to as "soft" racism of lowered expectations.
This fake news projection again, eh? You watch Fox and OAN, both entertainment/opinion posing as news...the definition of fake news...but want to call the daily videos of racist dicks being racist dicks on tape "fake". Do you believe CNN has a studio out back where they stage these events?
" There is no belief, however foolish, that will not gather its faithful adherents who will defend it to the death." -Asimov
Let's compare relevant and real numbers, police kill 25-26 black men for every cop killed. Let's not pretend you can do statistics even with honest data....but there's no question you can't using the data you repeat, because it's not data, it's racist propaganda that's thoroughly debunked but you just keep repeating.
You know you said there are 5000 racist murders for every black on black murder, right?
How many per day, Bob? How many racist murders per day do you need?
How many unprovoked violent racist attacks by blacks against whites per day would you need to see before you can admit there's a problem, because I'm sure if races were reversed that number would be 1/365....one video per year, that's what I think it would take for you to label a black run system racist against white people. Without racial norms being reversed, two a day isn't enough.
The big issue today is cops, the government, killing unarmed black people....If cops and their superiors were mostly minorities who killed >90% whites and arrested whites for non-infractions, putting only those publicly proven racists on vacation duty and protecting any accused without video proof, you would be frothing with rage at the out of control racist cops.
Edit:so answer the question...how many per day before you see racism is still problematic? A number
How many instances per day of government sanctioned racism before you see it's systemic. A number
Note, the word systemic does not mean that every interaction must be a racist violation. I know your paper tiger/straw man methods.
I'll grant you that there are racist dicks out there but not as many as fake news pushes day in day out.
How many racist murders are there per year compared to # of murders of black on black? 5000:1 maybe
I would gather a less than a 1% ratio.
Stop wasting time address the small issue and fix the big issue.
Trump's Covid 19 Plan, Get Cancer Then Poison Yourself
Two days prior to the remarks Mark Grenon told Trump that chlorine dioxide – a powerful bleach used in industrial processes such as textile manufacturing that can have fatal side-effects when drunk – is “a wonderful detox that can kill 99% of the pathogens in the body”. He added that it “can rid the body of Covid-19”.
Paradoxically, Trump’s outburst about the possible value of an “injection” of disinfectant into the lungs of Covid-19 sufferers came just days after a leading agency within the president’s own administration took action to shut down the peddling of bleach as a coronavirus cure around the US.
i.e capricious, grasping at straws and dangerous.
Unfortunately deperate and or stupid people do take inspiration from his moronic suggestions.
Only fools think Trump suggest injecting disinfectants like bleach and rubbing alcohol might be a good treatment to kill Covid,
Shit load of Fools on the sift.
Happy New Year 2020
Woah, buddy -- you're going off the deep end with my argument and beating the poor straw man into a puff of dried grass. I'm not saying that everyone is a darn automaton following the whims of popular culture. I'm merely saying that there is a heavy pressure to do things because of culture. And because of Japanese kawaii culture, she gains a lot of social credit for performing in such a way.
Relax. Just beca
So wait...is it her dancing like a cute anime girl for attention that you say isn't a choice, or is it demeaning women who make different choices than yours (hers) in the name of feminism that isn't a choice, or are you saying there are no choices and all behavior is culturally driven so out of our hands?
Doing crimes is a choice, and one not monopolized by minorities. It may be your best option in your particular circumstances, but it's never the only option, it is definitely a choice.
Ppft, I say. Then why don't people all act the same in a given culture?
Culture may make certain choices socially acceptable or not, or personally beneficial or not, but you are responsible for your choices. Yes, you really choose, cultural acceptance and consequences may be part of how you form your decision, or not, but they don't make your decisions, they inform them. If culture was the only deciding factor, we would still be living in the bronze age where a girl this age would have no viable choice but to have had a few children by now and would likely be dead from complications of childbirth. Fortunately, many have chosen to ignore or contradict cultural norms so we have progressed as a society.
God damnit Chug.
I didn't straw man anything. His argument was that the animal is about to "go through hell" in "a few days".
My counter is that the animal is not going to go through hell (not abused) and will be living for more than a few days. I backed that assertion up with facts that I am familiar with for the subject matter. I didn't even mention other inaccuracies about the butchering process that really have nothing to do with the animal going "through hell" since it has been rendered unconscious before anything happens.
Does every fact in his description have to be 100% false for his overall analysis to be repudiated? Seems like a high bar for challenging an opinion.
You cherry picked the portions of his text that you could straw man (timeline of death, your apparent ignorance that animal abuse is a thing that happens and taking the term "throw" literally).
The reality is that what he said is true: The cow is doomed and will be killed using the methods he described.

Why would someone beat their animals? It would just stress them out so the animals will get sick and probably die, losing the farmer money. And who can pick up 500 lbs to throw it into a truck? Your characterization is unrealistic and likely stems from your concern for the animals, which is admirable, but isn't based in reality.
Capitalism Didn’t Make the iPhone, You iMbecile
Not a straw man one bit. I didn't say you made the list, but you accepted it as the topic and your examples.
Again, they didn't personally profit. Government employees don't own patents on what they create on the job, and didn't profit personally from them. That came later from the public sector. Even in the private sector, inventors often don't profit from inventions they create at work, their company does. I'm certainly not saying people don't profit from their inventions, just not in these publicly funded cases.
100% of the examples were based on purely taxpayer funded inventions, created not through capitalism, not created for profit. Publicly funded projects are SOCIALISM. Those who spout hate of anything socialism should immediately get off the internet.
Again, G5 and G6 are being led by communist countries. Invention isn't tied to profit, especially these inventions.
Necessity is the mother of invention, not profit.
Do we need another round? We're going in circles because you insist socialist academic inventions are due solely to the incentive of profit, ignoring their history and origins.
@newtboy
That'd be an obvious no to taxation strawman, and the "cherry-picked list" wasn't made by myself, but rather the guy in the video so I think it a fair list to use as a critique of his point. I'm not narrowing or selecting anything to help me out, he did.
My 'logic' was not your taxation throw away, but rather as I stated: "being able to profit of your own ideas and grow your own business and keep the profits from it is just maybe a contributing factor in all that."
Innovation being connected to the ability of the inventor to profit from innovation? Doesn't seem a huge leap, and something that is far more pronounced under capitalism than socialism. So, yeah, when 100% of the examples the guy arguing here came up with all grew out of a nation with an underlying capitalist economy isn't a huge surprise, and makes a bit of case that maybe innovation IS encouraged by that factor of self-interest.
The 7 Biggest Failures of Trumponomics
Interesting suggestion.
I believe that with 1/10 the population, near today's per capita resource usage would be sustainable....although there would be a necessary time period with net zero or better emissions required to return the atmosphere to "normal" before runaway greenhouse effects and feedbacks turn earth into Venus 2.0. After that, there is an amount of emission the planet can absorb, so resource usage need not be curtailed excessively, but it wouldn't hurt.
I'm all for the lottery system if everyone draws straws, no exceptions except those willing to just move to the reservation voluntarily.
Even a lottery system simply for procreation would do wonders, but remembering the outrage at China for just allowing one child per couple, I doubt that would fly either. Also, it does leave the possibility that the lucky procreators might all be imbecilic morons incapable of following/continuing the plan...we don't want to become a species that is dumber than our pets....or do we?
I think the priorities should be reversed too, what's best for life on earth first, humanity second.
It's an extreme solution certainly, but not without merit. I doubt there'd ever be a willing acceptance of such a plan though, so a slightly more realistic solution would need to be moderated some. How's this for dystopian-but-not-quite-genocidal:
Worldwide lottery, a small percentage (total of 500M - 1B maybe) wins the right to live in what will be the new model of the world: something like what we have now, but with drastically reduced usage of non-renewable resources (until they can be replaced completely) and a target of zero negative impact on the environment as a whole. Still some version of democratic (generally at least), freedom of whatnot and such, open travel to the degree that sustainable transportation options allow, all the (again, sustainable) mod cons. I suppose different countries / regions could still run things according to their preferences, as long as the net-zero goal remains.
The other lottery entrants, the non-winners, don't need to die, hooray! They will however live on something akin to reservations, as serfs, without the right to further reproduce. These poor bastards, in exchange for not being outright murdered to save civilization, are to be consolidated into agricultural communes to do whatever they can to regrow the world's flora and fauna until they all eventually die. Their goal is not net-zero, but as far into the positive as possible. It would all be overseen according to some grand scheme(s) to be as beneficial for the overall future of humanity and life on Earth in general as possible.
Probably also unworkable, but preferable to megamurder?
Students Support Socialism. Until It's Applied To Their GPA
1) Because they didn't succeed in a vacuum, they benefit from civilization, so are obligated to support it to at least the same extent if not more because they are able while others aren't.
2) swap dumb with rich and Trump is the bazillionaire he claims to be. You can't just swap dissimilar unrelated concepts and say "see, proved it" without looking like a braying moron.
3) Yes it should without question, our best and brightest don't come from the privileged class as a higher percentage. Actually the opposite because they don't have to do their best to survive, poorer people do, and drive matters immensely. If we want to compete internationally, we must educate the uneducated and undereducated, even those who can't afford $500000 to fake a crew history or SAT score. That education needs to be better than the countries we compete with, and it is all too often simply not.
That is a conservative stance, not a liberal one.
4) equating wealth to gpa, like this moronic video does, means Trump, like everyone else, should start at 0 and not get a bonus from daddy. If that happened, he would be zero. He is not self made, he did not only get a small $14 million unrepaid interest free loan. He did squander the money, failing at venture after venture until only Russian gangsters will loan him money, loans he needs because he squandered the money....then he repeatedly lied about it immorally squandering billions from hundreds of duped investors too...THAT is evil, yes.
5) We make $30000 for two people and don't take a dime, even overpaid my taxes...not everyone has my opportunities, privileges, and abilities. You are just spouting nonsense straw man arguments. In a perfect world, we could all be self sustaining with equal opportunity to succeed, we don't live in that communist/socialist utopia.....no one ever has.
I believe we are better off when the least privileged don't have to resort to violent or immoral crime to survive. I believe we are better off as a nation when our best people have the opportunities to succeed that our worst but most privileged are afforded. I believe we are better off being protected from the irresponsibility of purely profit driven commerce that, by design, must walk the razors edge of acceptability to maximize profit and minimize obligations by any means necessary, usually leaving them for socialist programs to clean up/repair. I believe we do more good ensuring the starving among us are fed food humans would willingly eat before ensuring some unrepentant apocalyptic bankers get their multi million dollar bonuses and a free pass on their crimes, and before those making multi millions a year get to hoard more and pay even less of their share.
6) What you are spouting is bat shit insane, not even AOC advocates pure socialism....not even Russia had pure socialism. Your ilk, however, calls any government program that doesn't directly benefit them or their Trumpian masters "socialist"....education, infrastructure, all regulatory agencies, social security, even the fbi have been labeled socialist by Trumpists in the zeal to discredit the report they assumed would expose criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States (ps, it found exactly that dozens of times over), while military welfare programs for equipment we don't want and won't use, bailouts for banks and agribusiness, public funds for private ventures like golf courses and troll roads, (edit:Freudian slip?) and don't forget the unmentioned elephant, the military itself...all that socialism is fine, you think it's not even socialism. *facepalm
I'll say it again.
Asinine.
1)Why should some one work hard supplement someone who didn't work hard or tried hard and came up short?
2) Swap out "GPA" with "Hard Earned Money" and these people are capitalists 100%!
3) Also higher education shouldn't be funded with tax dollars.
4) What does Trump have to do with this? His dad paid for his schooling and gave him $ to start his life on. He did not squandered the $. And you look at this as evil or such?
5) You want all to be dependent on government cheese or self sustaining?
6) American Government programs are 1 thing. Socialism as the main form of government is another.
Is The Global Temperature Record Credible?
Lol...an old Glen Beck video he himself has admitted is nonsense. Great proof there Bob....I thought you said yesterday that CNN videos are all bullshit lies, today you link one that's been denounced by it's own creator as pseudoscientific propaganda as your good supporting proof?! You are just too funny, buddy.
Are you really just trying to prop up weak straw men for us to knock down? Because that's what you're doing, and it makes you look pretty dumb or dishonest, your choice.
And this one, some random internet dude actually claims there's no decent temperature data before 1950. Also, note the thumbnail graph has one line go to 1974 and the other 2018 on a graph that ends in 1970. That's all the brain numbing stupidity I'm willing to stomach for this latest dishonest industry attempt at spreading unscrupulous nonsense.
Would love to see the facts on their funding, but we won't because they hide their funding by funneling it through private third party donation companies so oil, gas, and coal money can be hidden and claimed as "small donations on this blog" but are actually well organized industry funding of industry shills.
Just asinine.
*facepalm

Blown Sugar in China - Ox, Monkey, Tiger, Dragon, Horse,...
SO, tell me, Is the piece in his mouth like a straw? Is he blowing into it to inflate it?
and if so, is that even sanitary?
TED Talk: Whitopia
Leave the straw man alone, you wicked witch!
So, yet another straw man?
TED Talk: Whitopia
I have never argued against that.
So, yet another straw man?
Can you look up a list of fallacies so you can at least know what I'm talking about? Fallacious arguments have no value. You don't seem to understand the basic logical mistakes you're making.
Blanket racial statements are wrong and racist.
TED Talk: Whitopia
That's what I figured. You just got all riled up by something you thought you read and made an argument based off your misunderstanding (intentional or otherwise).
Now you realize you picked an untenable position. You were happy to address the whole argument when you turned it into a straw man that barely resembled what I'd actually said, then once you realized it actually provided context and made sense you decided to focus on the initial vague statement and interpret in the way you chose completely ignoring the context you'd tried to focus on earlier. That is what's called cherry picking.
Now you've been called on for your fallacious arguments, you withdraw.
Nice.
Cherry picked!? Lol.
"One white person is pleasant company; 50 white people are a lynch mob waiting to happen."....
Drachen_Jager-
"Not entirely inaccurate, though."
All the other tripe is attempting to change the subject.
You said the blanket statement about whites is not entirely wrong, in some places it's not entirely wrong, sometimes in some places it's not entirely wrong.....
I'm consistent in saying any blanket statement is wrong, and blanket statements about race are invariably wrong and racist.
There is no debate here. You just keep changing your position so you can argue.
