Why does Glenn Beck always look like the first guy who loses it in a platoon when they come under enemy fire? Or the asshole that pushes kids out of the way to escape a burning building.
He was the guy in highschool was too fat and too much of a pussy to play sports, too stupid to do well academically, not sophisticated enough to engineer or be part of the arts program, and too hated to be in student politics.
So he had only one other option; picking on poor kids.

He just has that persona to me. Am I alone in this?
Nope, I totally agree. He's like George Costanza only not the least bit likable.
Idiot Taunts Judge into Pushing Sentence to 120 Years
>> ^ObsidianStorm:
"My wild guess would be jail time for shooting in the direction of a SWAT team is something like 20 years."
"Wild Guess" being the operative term...
Good job missing the point.
You didn't have much of a point if your "wild guess" was only 20 years for attempted murder of a police officer.
According to wikipedia the average sentence for murder is 29 years. This was attempted murder so I guessed 20 years. Not to mention a police standoff implies to me he was trying to not be caught, not trying to murder police. But the point that seems to bother you is that the judge seemed to let his temper come before objective justice. If you have a bug up your butt about my misunderstanding of how sentencing works feel free to keep complaining.
Das Model Rammstein - Domino (keira knightley)
Was this song part of the soundtrack for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domino_(film)? Or is this just some kind of fan edit?
In the movie, did she defuse a standoff by lap dancing? That's a bit ridiculous.
Arundhati Roy Regarding the Events in India: Only Question
Hollywoodbob, by your logic, India should never have followed Gandhi and seceded from the British Empire, since it lead to the Kashmir tensions and nuclear standoff between Pakistan and India. How far back should you go in your time machine to prevent present or past tensions? the big bang?
I submit that if you have something nice, someone else will want to take it, and just giving it away is not a solution, since it never "balances out" anything, as long as you still have something to take. Either be strong enough to defend your stuff personally, or strong enough to instate rule of law collectively. Or starve.
If that's Nietzsche's opinion as well, maybe I should read up on the fellow.

*ahem*
"Fellow ANC member Wolfie Kadesh explains the bombing campaign led by Mandela: "When we knew that we going to start on 16 December 1961, to blast the symbolic places of apartheid, like pass offices, native magistrates courts, and things like that ... post offices and ... the government offices. But we were to do it in such a way that nobody would be hurt, nobody would get killed." Mandela said of Wolfie: "His knowledge of warfare and his first hand battle experience were extremely helpful to me."
Controversial Calvin Klein advertising
Why do I feel like these weren't actually CK ads, but video tapes found inn a kidnapper's basement after a prolonged standoff/shootout?
Obama and "Joe the Plumber"
With "me first," the rest of the working masses gets dehumanized - if this were a standoff between Joe the plumber and that waitress back in the diner, then this would be a different human interest story.
Matt Damon Actually Sounding Smart On Palin
I find it frustrating that the main thrust of the arguments here seem to be based on how one feels about an actor which may or may not be based on ones opinions of the movies he’s done. The real argument that should be playing out is weather or not Palin would be ready to LEAD this country let alone if she’s sane or not.
His (Damon’s) opinions should not held on any pedestal nor should it be driven into the ground. He has a platform and hes using it. OUR platform is Videosift and we are using IT, what's the difference? Don't we all in some small way have pretentious feelings about the comments we leave?
In regards to Palin my not so humble opinion and not an incredibly educated one at that is that she isn’t fit to govern the second smallest state in the United States let alone the most powerful country on the planet. Her pick as a running mate is a disgusting insult and an utterly reckless and irresponsible choice. It not only puts this country at risk but the entire world. A soccer mom is going prevent the second cold war from happening let alone negotiate a nuclear standoff? A soccer mom is going to negotiate with Iran, North Korea, clean up the Iraq mess, continue the fight in Afganistan, help solve the energy crisis, the housing crisis, the health care problem? A religious zealot who has demonstrated that she hates and or is terrified of anyone or thing existing outside of her tiny little box of existance is going to help the poor of this country, the sick, the minority, the gays and lesbians, the non Christians?
This isn’t a joke. This isn’t a movie where the unlikeliest of underdogs pulls off a victory and saves the day. This is the real world where an old man with failing health and a clueless woman with little to zero experience have the potential to govern the lives of millions of people.
I hope I’m not alone when I say that I am terrified.

The Iran McCain Would Rather You Not See
Iran creating 'nuclear weapons' is a created narrative by the GOP and warhawks in Washington.
When the Iraq war was at its worst, the blame was not laid at the Whitehouse burdening the military with unrealistic political objectives while not providing the necessary manpower.
No the blame was laid at insurgents, Al Qaeda but most of all at the influence of Iran and it's Revolutionary Guard. Everything from providing arms to training.
So much so that a resolution was passed declaring the Revolutionary Guards as 'terrorist' organization, weak links were pulled claiming Iran's president was involved in the American embassy hostage crisis back in the 80s.
This narrative was present on and off for several years, because who better to blame for the quagmire of Iraq then America hating Iran? But the story wasn't solid because there was hardly any proof, the EFPs found bearing Iranian marking are only indicative of lucrative arms trade that is occurring now in Iraq not of a policy of sabotaging America by Iran's government.
But this was not enough so the case for Iran creating Nuclear weapons was pushed forward, "Surely" the Neocons thought "It worked with Iraq 'smoking-gun-mushroom-cloud' it will probably work here".
The reason being such a narrative would facilitate expansion of the war into another sovereign nation that happens to possess oil reserves and more importantly lie in a strategic location that would allow oil and gas pipelines to run from Central Asia (one of the last untapped through Afghanistan to the Persian Gulf).
Not because it would benefit America as a whole but because it would benefit the interests of those who possess power, politically it would justify scaling and prolonging the war as much they wish, it would also allow for long term control of strategic reserves and routes for years to come not because its a good idea but because people who are Neocons are already playing a fantasy military standoff between the US, Russia and China some 50 years ahead.
Not to mention it would be to Israeli wishes.
Remember a few months ago they tried to pull a Gulf of Tonkin scenario in the Persian Gulf. Notice how that story got promptly buried.
Iran is not stupid, its military and army cannot handle an American air assault, they will be destroyed. They know the Bush Administration wants them to make a stupid move to justify and invasion or rather a air strike assault, why else would they just isolate them and not even talk to them in diplomatic terms. The carrier groups are ready stationed in the Persian Gulf to strike at any time.
This policy is disastrous, because the current sanctions and political isolation is only worsening the situation in Iran, justifying the centralization of power under the current president due to the possibility of war. It also solidifies Arab distrust of the US and plays right into the hands of groups like Al Qaeda.
The Insanity of Nuclear Weapons
Russia is not and never was the threat they said it was.
So what, the Cuban missile crisis was all a charade? Soviet and American leaders got together beforehand and were like: "Hey, let's pretend to have a little standoff - you know, kind of get the crowd going a bit." I suppose all their missiles were filled with sawdust and cow parts. World history is pretty much WWE.
I'm curious, when did this start? Was it right after WWII that they had the meeting and worked out the script? Or was WWII part of it too? If so, I have to say that was a good move. Nobody wants to question the made-up history if half the people they know inexplicably died.
a means of taking control of media operations
This is such an insult to the billions of people in countries where the government actually does control media operations. Media here is controlled by money, and money is controlled by attention. This produces certain kinds of flaws in media coverage (like a tendency to support wars that involve hometown boys dying), but it doesn't make the media a government puppet.
Talking to people with views like yours, I quite often get told that I just can't handle the truth or something. I'd say it's just the opposite. To me, the real, scary, hard-to-accept truth is that there isn't a deeper level of reality or motivation to world events.
Despite how scary it seems, the world is shaped by people like Bush - people who got where they are by accidents of fate, and people who are not particularly more qualified than the average restaurant manager. These people don't plan to have a fake rivalry with Russia to subjugate the populace, they think "Oh yeah Russia, you can't mess with us - we'll build twice as many bombs".
They're motivated by fear and doubt and ego - just like the rest of us. Ascribing to them completely different, secret motives (as well as near absolute, behind-the-curtains power) means you'll never understand world history, and that you sacrifice what little influence you could have on your nation's future.
I've mentioned this before, but it seems like in the States now a lot of young people with good ideals are opting out of the political process entirely - because they kind of disbelieve in the whole system. As a consequence, you continue to get the same kind of leaders.
Come back to reality. You're needed!
