Oil Lobby threatens Obama

cosmovitelli says...

>> ^Yogi:

They're mad. They're very upset that Obama isn't doing what he said he was gonna do. They're fucking morons believing in fairytales.

Yeah they're crazy for wanting to stop the destruction of the biosphere, end suicidal trillion dollar opportunistic oil heists around the world, get rid of nukes before one ends up in NYC, control the bullying of 6th generation intellectually mediocre inheritees wielding billions, stop rich right wing politicians sending the poor off to die in foreign fields in return for backhanders from Halliburton, Blackwater and the oil companies, stop 'losing' billions of dollars in cash on aeroplanes bound for Baghdad, try and resuscitate America's tattered reputation as a country of democracy, freedom and law, deal with Afghanistan, Pakistan and Saudi because THATS WHERE THE TERRORISTS LIVE NOT IRAQ, stop burning thousands of children to death in their cots in self defeating attempts to dominate huge populations of increasing angry bereaved paupers, and stop America from ending up as the poor beggar in a nuclear standoff with china in 20 years that they'll have to back down from cos china could take everything the US has and walk away with 300m people breathing -and the US knows it- and the west now talking about 'freedom' and respect for individuals and other nations will just make the Chinese commie party laugh even harder (and milks been coming out of their nose since 2002).

Stop America tearing itself to pieces and handing the next 2 centuries to 1.5 billion Chinese who have EVEN LESS interest and empathy for the 'Rest Of World' than Americans?

Maybe you're right Yogi.

Walmart Manager Denies Xmas Eve Shoppers

mintbbb says...

Believe me, every other day the retail workers smile and say 'yes, you are right, how can we help you?' to all the asshole customers. But ON CHRISTMAS EVE! Just ONE day of the year, just frigging think about the retail workers! Since they already work 364 days a year now, after Thanksgiving was taken too. Is it too much to say 'On Xmas Eve, PLEASE let them leave work on time! JUST Do your shopping before 7:30pm on Christmas EVE!

Yes, the store hours might be untilo 8pm, but do you HAVE TO BE THE ASSHOLE WHO SHOWS UP AT 7:59???? Show some respect to the people who already are working their butts off and get no respect, no thank yous, no holidays off!

Thank God I am not working retail any more, but my best friend is, and so are lots of my other friends. They are the hardest working people, and still, they are the ones that worst of everything.

And things like this last minute shopping not just Walmart. I never worked for Walmart, but I salute this manager for standing up to the employees. I am sure the other money-hungry retailers were still ushering people out around 8:50pm and having cashiers stay there, just because the elite wanted to have their last minute leisure shopping 'when it is finally quiet in the store'.

The guy's a douchebag but he is right. There is no inherent right to shop. They have the right to refuse service.
That said. It's a stupid policy. Deny entry at 8. Sure it takes longer to close because you have to get the people out..but so what. It doesn't take THAT long to get people out vs the bad PR incidents like this generates.
Let the consumer whores shop. that standoff was completely unnecessary.

It does take that long to get people out. When a store closes at 10pm, you have to pretty much try to wrestle some people out by 10:30. Turning off the lights and announcing that the store is closed does not help. On a normal night, people have to be scheduled at least that extra 30 minutes late. So, even now, I am sure nobody gets to go home before 8:30.
It is frigging Christmas eve! Retail workers are people too (surprise!), and they might want to get out of the store and to their families, and not stay extra late because some idiots want to do LAST MINUTE SHOPPING.

Mintbbb,
I understand what you are saying but I disagree.
Are retail store workers people? Yes. But unfortunately they are people with jobs, and that job is to allow people to shop. I've never heard of a policy where "Yes the store is open until 8:00 but we stop letting people in at 7:30".
I understand these people have homes, families, children, cats, etc to get home too but when you work retail it's part of your job. You (unfortunately) have to service guys like these who wait till the last minute and make you late going home.
As a person who did customer service extensively I've had people plenty of time call up 10 minutes before closing and I don't say to them midway through the call "I'm sorry I was not able to resolve your computer issue, however it is now 6:00 PM and we are closed, please try your call again tomorrow HAVE A NICE DAY click . Nor do we stop picking up at 5:30 because everyone wants to leave at 6:00.
What's happening sucks but the Manager and everyone in the store needs to suck it up and let those people in.

You have honestly never heard of this? Have you lived under a rock your entire life? This happens everywhere. Go to any restaurant tonight and you'll see it easily. Kitchens always close early. Is it posted? No. Is it common sense? Definitely. >> ^Darkhand:

***SPOILER ALERT***

While on one hand I agree, I also disagree. I recently re-read this, and the standoff between Balin and locals after Smaug destroys their town and is killed, as well as Bilbo's deception (donning the ring, sneaking off to make a deal to end the standoff etc...) and the ensuing Battle of the Five Armies... these things have a very epic and grownup quality to them.

Yeah, I've been feeling the same way since the standoff over union rights in Wisconsin.

Something's going to have to give, people have got to snap out of it and start acting.

Lawsuit After Guy Tasered 6 Times For Crooked License Plate

marbles says...

"Crooked license plate" is one of those bullshit excuses police make up to pull "suspicious" people over. And considering it was the front license plate here, it's rather convenient since the plate is not visible by the camera.

I don't see a problem with the police hitting the guy with taser in this situation. But... I dunno I think maybe if the police weren't trained to be authoritative thugs then the standoff would've been quickly resolved with little to no conflict. And if there wasn't a war on drugs, this guy would've probably never been pulled over to begin with.

I would be curious to see the police report and see if they found anything after searching his car.

This is why amateurs should not have guns and this is why gun laws in the states are also crazy.

Might as well outlaw alcohol too then. Idiot drunks kill people on the highway, so obviously no one can be trusted to drink.
On a side note, I know an "Alcohol Enforcement Officer"... drinks more than anyone I've ever met, and not in a good way.

the same could be said for guns. it takes someone pulling the trigger to kill.

i do want to add a bit of commentary on these developing stories. between this and the jose guerera case, both cases piss me right the fuck off and heres why. In both instances you have an overwhelming force subduing another. in this case, gun toting cop vs knife toting dude. in jose's case, an entire swat team vs one armed man. the end result was death, fucking wrongful, wasteful death.

now having said that, the commentary i would like to add is this: i know that in armed conflict and escalating situations such as these (presumably, even hypothetically, ie, he could have charged the cop with the knife off screen and an attacker can close distance in most cases faster than the shooter can react and fire) it takes steel nerves and lightning reflexes reinforced by training to make the decision to fire or not fire.

........however, when i was in afghanistan, i found myself in the middle of a legit "mexican standoff". long story short, my PCC team were to accompany the scout platoon to escort a rogue afghan border patrol police general back to our FOB to speak with his superiors. When we arrived to our PCC compound we found that he was there, along with over 100 of his loyals, preparing to mount a raid of their own (they were usually running illegal checkpoints, shit like that). Naturally when they figured out that we were there to detain their leader (in their eyes, our direct orders were to not detain but persuade him to come with us, if he refused we were to leave without incident). My CO talked with the general and persuaded him to willingly come with us.....but to his loyals, we were capturing him. within seconds, the guards they had in their towers had oriented their crew served weapons inwards, ANP loyals were loading their RPG's with armor piercers and taking fighting positions behind buildings oriented at us, you could hear dozens of ak's "racking" (chambering a round). There was over a hundred of them and less than 20 of us. Had it exploded into a firefight, we certainly woulved fucked all shit up.......but few, if any, of us were leaving alive. all it wouldve taken was one round to go off from either side to fully escalate that encounter to a full on gun battle. fortunately we kept our cool (as did the anp loyals), assessed the situation, navigated the battle space, reinforced by our training which emphasizes self control, discipline, and situational awareness, and we were able to diffuse the situation without incident. Not a single round was fired. and we had accomplished our mission (btw turns out the general had been hoarding police gun stocks, by the thousands, and had cached them at his house and was selling them off to taliban)

now my point being if i and the members of my team had the intestinal fortitude and mental tenacity to diffuse that highlyvolatile situation without incident, especially considering the higher stakes (this was in the middle of a fucking war, not in someones neighborhood or on a crosswalk), so to speak.......what is your fucking excuse Tucson swat team? what is your fucking excuse, cop in this video?

Maddow: How the Right Uses Racial Fears to Win Votes

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Pot - meet kettle. The left has been playing race politics for decades. Millionth verse - same as the first. The overwhelming evidence is that the political left tosses out accusations of racism as a means of trying to take the political right off message when the left is getting the stuffing beaten out of it. The polls currently have the democrats trembling in their boots. Almost 70% of the people identify more with the Tea party than with the Democrats. Congress approval is at 11%. Unnamed Republican beats Obama in polls. Projections show Democrats losing both House and Senate. Tea Party message resonating. And - on cue - out comes the charge of racism.

With a collective yawn from the public. You can only cry that the sky is falling, or the wolf is coming so many times before people get the message that the messenger is a dip-stick and a tool. Such is the case with this whole race discussion now.

Both the left and the right are now playing a game of Mexican standoff. Pointing fingers - but only at the groups they don't like. If racism is 'bad' then it's bad no matter who does it, and both sides are now using 'race' in a way that makes them race-baiters. Get back to the issues folks. Lower taxes. Smaller government. Fiscal responsiblity. Jobs. This is what people care about - not these fake accusations of racism and all the crocodile tears.

And Sherrod? She's was a racist, and still is a racist. Follow the money. She's a race baiter, and she's in it for the money. Get a load of her on GMA today? People oppose Obamacare because he's black... Obama doesn't understand BLACK people like her... First BLACK president... Blah blah blah. She's a racist sleazemonger, and she deserved to be fired 100X over. She didn't deserve to be hired in the first place.
