Minor League Baseball Manager Ejected, Epic Tantrum Ensues

Yogi says...

I like these standoffs with Umpires and Coaches...I don't get why all the machismo in such a boring sport.

EDIT: Also saying "I just want to him to tell me what I said" and then proceeding to verbally abuse the Umpire yelling at him Fucking this fucking that fuck you you fucking blah blah blah. None of that gives you a clue as to who is in the wrong here? Is any of that ok for the Umpire to say to you?

How To Brainwash a Nation

NetRunner says...

It's amazing to me how ensconsed in the bubble the right is these days.

Let's break it down:

  1. Ideological subversion propagation - Radical conservatives begin pushing their ideology to all members of society through churches, schools, and supposedly independent policy research "think tanks". This begins in the early 30's, and is a systematic campaign aimed at chipping away at the credibility of embedded liberalism, America's original ideology. The "threat of communism" is conflated with traditional American values like empathy, solidarity, and equality.

  2. Destabilization - The 1960's reads literally like a textbook example of a country in crisis. A presidential assassination, two proxy wars, a mexican standoff with nuclear weapons, a counterculture protest movement, race relations getting strained with protests and violence, and the then-dominant Democratic party coming apart at its seams over disagreements about the war and civil rights.

  3. Crisis - This one is clear. The oil crisis of the 1970's was our key takeover crisis moment. It basically ushered in an end to embedded liberalism as the American way of life. So many aspects of our political life and the way our economy was run was radically changed in the aftermath of that crisis, even though it was a walk in the park compared to today's economic problems.

  4. Normalization - Conservative Republicans won 3 terms in a row, from 1980 until 1992, followed by a conservative, Southern Democrat who won in part because a third party candidate split Republican support. Party-line economists have treated the works of John Maynard Keynes the way their forebears treated the work of Karl Heinrich Marx -- they pretended it had nothing worthwhile to say, and tried their best to erase it from academic discourse. The Democrats of today consider reforms Republicans proposed in 1992 massive ideological win for the left.

Take the bananas out of your ears, morons.

Anyways, this is actually a pretty astute observation about how radical political and economic change happens. It's not necessarily planned like our conservative takeover was, but the framework for all ideological revolutions start with an ideology becoming commonly known, then during a period of destabilization and crisis, people may turn to the new ideology.

This is literally what more than a few libertarian bloggers say is their raison d'etre -- to make sure the ideology is lying around for when a crisis hits.

However, anyone who thinks some Russian-led infiltration of "Marxist-Lenninist" ideology happened or is happening is fucking deluded. It would've been a real trick considering your average American doesn't have a fucking clue what Marxism is...because the right stigmatized knowledge of it!

Whistleblower Microbiologist Warned Of Ukrainian Outbreak

alizarin says...

Where to start?

The professional website provided in the description says someone named Joseph Moshe Bar is a retired professor of "plant pathology and weed research" in Isreal. He looks like he's 70 or 80 years old.
A picture of the guy in the Volkswagon incident looks 25 years younger than the guy on the professional website given in the description. Articles I googled say his neighbor and mother say he's got mental problems (off his meds).
1) Wrong age, name differs
2) Photos don't match
3) Wrong profession
4) Don't see proof they're both from Isreal
5) The one they arrested's nuts

Obviously not the same guy.

But ignoring that...

Apparently someone of the same name called a radio talk show with a conspiracy story about a company making H1N1 vaccine attacking the people of Ukraine with either mutated H1N1 or the Plague bacteria.
1) With something that nutty - could we at least hear the call?
2) How do you mix up H1N1 virus and Plague bateria? Wildly different.
3) Why would a pharma company want to kill the people of Ukraine? Just a bit risky to quarterly profits no?

According to the Washington Post and The Guardian (UK) People are afraid H1N1 might be worse in the cold winters of Russia/Ukraine/Etc but the number of cases of Flu deaths is actually down 10% from last year. The political situation in Ukraine is kind of nasty right now and the candidates are preying on people's fears in an election season. So, not really anything like the way he characterized it in his video.

Also - nice touch to imply Obama's to blame towards the end.

Michael Moore Calls Out ABC on its Own Labor Practices

I used to think he had some talent but he is a hack with contrived confrontations and stunts. Crime scene tape? Awkward standoffs with security guards? That's all he can do. I doubt he's got anything in the way of a reform agenda.

I think it's important to keep in mind that in the end he is making movies. He isn't a senator or legislator, he's an entertainer. An entertainer that hopes to use his art to open the eyes of everyday people and in doing so make reform and the evolution of our society possible. Sure he uses cheesy gag setups to get across a point, but he does it well.

If only I had a gun

iaui says...

To be honest, I think most of you are missing a major point in the video. Yes, the 'science' behind the panic-room tests are questionable, but there are several important points made about humans' ability to respond with a gun in a crisis situation.

Let's review, shall we?
- When the adrenaline begins to pump, the body removes blood from the appendages in order to make sure it's better at running. This removes dexterity from the hands and can render grabbing and shooting a gun futile. Only through major training can those interested parties (police, in this case) retrain their bodies.
- The minds of those in crises narrow their focus, to focus in on the danger point. In these cases the danger point is another gun but focussing on the gun is futile, because it's the human that's shooting the gun. As well, there are many other things going on in the room it's necessary to be aware of, that those in the situation will simply not be aware of. Shooting at someone without paying attention is likely to have unintended consequences. Again, only through major training can those interested parties retrain their minds to broaden their focus.
- Unless you train regularly, it's often impossible to react with enough speed to do anything before the consequences of not running catch up with you.
- Probabilistically speaking, it's better to just run, because only 50% of people with guns will actually shoot, and each shot is more unlikely to hit you the further away you are.

Now, having said all that, I don't think it's bad that anybody owns guns. Just that they need to realize that in crisis situations they're not really that effective. Yes, it's great that you have a bunch of guns in case the government decides to become a dictatorship. I live in Canada where everybody is allowed to own guns who wants to (assuming they pass license requirements) and we're one of the safest countries in the world. I must admit, though, nobody I know owns a gun. I live in Vancouver, BC where there's recently been a few gang-style shootings, but nobody I've talked to feels unsafe. I mean... there's 11,000 murders in the US every year, but there's less than 50 per year in Canada. Even at the small amount of gang murders the public outrage has been huge. These people know they are not welcome to practice their violence here (or anywhere for that matter.) Not much to worry about here.

It's not guns that kill people, it's crazy people with guns that kill people. (:

So, to conclude, I think that focusing on the 'shady' science done by NBC is incorrect. Many of the important points made in the piece were simply corollaries to the demonstration. If you want to maximize your chances of surviving a gun-standoff, just fucking run. Or, if you want to minimize you chances of being in a gun-standoff, just move to Canada. Of course, you will have to accept Canada's national identity (Peace for all) if you move here, so make sure you're ready for that. (:

P.S. I didn't intend that to be about Canada, just happened to mention it and ran with it. Don't think I'm trying to be nationalistic, just realistic, given the statistics.

one captain freed in an awesome navy seals operation, but rememebr that theres a much bigger picture always.

That's true, but this is real terrorism staring us in the face, on the high seas, not tribes of pissed off poor people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is the real terrorism that we should be fighting.

And in Juarez, too, just south of us. These are real, pressing dangers, yet they are ignored and our best fighting force, our supposed "defense", is stuck in to poor-ass countries halfway around the world.
