Right-wing Bets Against U.S. in Pirate Standoff

From DKTV:

Here’s how desperate Republicans are to find a winning issue: conservatives from Newt Gingrich to Glenn Beck to the rest of Fox News all bet against the Obama administration’s ability to rescue Richard Phillips, the American ship captain who was taken hostage by Somali pirates last Wednesday.

They must have thought that a tragic ending to the crisis would have been a political opportunity, so they pre-positioned themselves to take full advantage. Except their plan went up in smoke when Navy SEALs — acting on orders from President Obama — rescued the captain, killing three pirates in the process.

The loons will certainly deny that they ever made a political bet against the U.S., but they can’t run from the video proof.

#1 There's not enough Navy to go around, even though we have the largest...

#2 We resolved the issue with the use of deadly, SEXY, force. Body count: 3 dead pirates. Can we get a "fuck yea".

#3 On a side note, FOX refers to attackers as Islamist Pirates.. hehe.

Obama is willing to sacrifice his fellow Islamocommuniggers? What depths will he go to deceive us all!!! RUN!

NetRunnersays...

I'm surprised they didn't mix in Bill Kristol calling for the invasion of Somalia in order to quell the pirate threat.

I can always count on him to say the most batshit insane things when it comes to use of force.

I don't get Fox News here, but I'd love to see that "We were wrong, GJ Obama!" apology coming out of Glenn Beck's mouth.

Ah, but I dream too much. Back to serious stuff.

Why does Glenn Beck always look like the first guy who loses it in a platoon when they come under enemy fire? Or the asshole that pushes kids out of the way to escape a burning building.

He just has that persona to me. Am I alone in this?

Nope, I totally agree. He's like George Costanza only not the least bit likable.

He was the guy in highschool was too fat and too much of a pussy to play sports, too stupid to do well academically, not sophisticated enough to engineer or be part of the arts program, and too hated to be in student politics.

So he had only one other option; picking on poor kids.

Biden was right, Obama would be challenged by a crisis within 6 months.

Unfortunately for FAUX NEWS, he passed with flying colors. Staying cool, quiet, and dealing with the situation with the needed force at the moment. Apparently he had over a dozen meetings during the 4(?) days and made decisions based on the facts at the moment.

I half expect Faux News is trying to play up that it took 4 days for the rescue and Obama didn't mention it for the whole time, etc. But I suspect as usual they are just pussing out and ignoring the entire story.

I'm enjoying this brief interlude where liberal talky-heads honestly support the US military.

48 hours doesn't quite make up for the past 8 years, though, does it?

Obama's bowing to royalty and America-bashing Euro Tour negates one correct (and obvious) decision.

Since Slowbama is now failing to follow-up with carpet-bombing of the Somalian coastline, I predict the scum will strike back and kill at least one American at sea in the next 6 months.

I have to say I have never been a fan of Bill O'Reilly but I can listen to him spout hatred and lies every now and again and not end up having a major tiff. But, this Glenn Beck guy gets under my skin, not only in how overtly ignorant he is but more in his presentation of himself; he just is disgustingly annoying! Stop talking Beck and stop all you're stupid fucking facial gestures, they're not funny, they're repulsive!

He reminds me of an elementary school kid that is just begging to be made fun of and have his ass beaten down at the bus stop. I would go back in time to those shitty, shitty elementary school days just to kick a couple of teeth out of this assholes face and live through junior high and high school all over again. I hate that guy more than anyone I know or don't know.

just a couple of things... the boat the captain was held in, glenn beck makes it sound like it was practically an open canoe they were in just drifing helplessly around in. Look at a pictures of it, and ponder the strategic challenges of getting a hostage out of there alive.

The pirates are now swearing revenge, and they have 230 other seamen held hostage on other ships.

I reject the left's outright hypocrisy, that's all. The left "hates" Glenn Beck and Fox News with nothing left over for terrorists, warlords, un-Johnny-Depp-like pirates etc., mayhaps it's part of an underplayed blame-USA-first mentality.

Claiming that "all violence" is wrong is a form of moral cowardice. Even the Dalai Lama recognizes that some wars are just. With an aquaterrorist or the other kind, the only choices are to meet their demands or kill them. Meeting terrorist demands just gets you more of the same, while meeting the threat of further escalation with overwhelming force sends a clear message not to do it again.

Was the irony that the Maersk Alabama was delivering aid to Somalia lost on the left? The nobility of doing good deeds does not make said do-gooders invincible or open the hearts of evil people. And so there are SEALS.

Uh, nothing here constitutes "betting against" the U.S. The U.S. Navy did their job and that's basically the end of the story. Obama did essentially nothing but some legal CYA-ing. Left-wingers are as stupid in praising the President for "performance" here as right-wingers are for deriding him.

MOMBASA, Kenya – Somali pirates captured four ships and took more than 60 crew members hostage in a brazen hijacking spree, while the American captain freed from their grip planned to reunite with his crew and fly home Wednesday to the United States.

Pirates have vowed revenge for the deaths of three colleagues at the hands of U.S. snipers rescuing Capt. Richard Phillips, as well as for two others slain by French forces in a separate rescue last week.

"Our latest hijackings were meant to show that no one can deter us from protecting our waters from the enemy because we believe in dying for our land," Omar Dahir Idle, a pirate based in the coastal town of Harardhere, told The Associated Press by telephone. "The recent American operation, French navy attack on our colleagues or any other operation mean nothing to us."

Yeah, QM, how well has that message gone over with the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan? We bombed the everloving shit of them and now, seven years later, they control more of the country than the allied forces there.

Regarding the pirates and their stronghold, that is not just the U.S.'s problem, but the world's problem. Let the Chinese bomb the Somalis. They've got some ships there. Let them fuck up some Moslems, instead of us, and take some of the heat. Why should we be the only ones poking Moslems in the eye?

That's true, but this is real terrorism staring us in the face, on the high seas, not tribes of pissed off poor people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is the real terrorism that we should be fighting.

And in Juarez, too, just south of us. These are real, pressing dangers, yet they are ignored and our best fighting force, our supposed "defense", is stuck in to poor-ass countries halfway around the world.

I guarantee you, if he killed 3 million people in retaliation for the actions of 3 pirates, many more Americans would die from blowback during the next 6 months. You ought to learn from your Führer's mistakes, herr QM.

That lesson is: pissing off the whole world in the pursuit of a self-serving agenda is actually BAD FOR YOUR SELF in the long term.

Why do I feed the trolls?

Memoraresays...

i don't know why someone hasn't sent out some "bait" ships to plink these guys one by one. Also interesting to note that Israeli shipping hasn't been hit (afaik) because their crews are armed and the pirates know it.

jwraysays...

The navy could send out some bait ships that look exactly like pirates' normal targets, but are secretly loaded with commandos. But they would only see action on maybe 1 out of 500+ trips through that region (every ship from Asia to Europe has to pass near Somalia to get through the suez canal). The rate of piracy is not that big as a percentage of the large amount of traffic in that area.

gizmundisays...

bombing the coast of Somalia? Disgusting, futile, stupid. To hear someone even suggest that is a logical solution to such an incredibly complex issue without knowing or even trying to empathize with all sides of the issue is nauseating.

If you're family was covered in rashes and tumors from nuclear waste washing up on your shores and your fellow countrymen couldn't feed themselves because opportunists were stealing their fish, wouldn't you be a goddamn hero for trying to defend your waters and attempt to get some payback for the damage done? I guess not. Sorry you were born in a country without a government, but go frak yourself and suck on the toxic by-products of the civilized world. By no means, am I advocating terrorism or piracy, but I'd suggest its unfair and hypocritical to pass such clear and belligerent judgments without a critical analysis of the entire situation. Violence is indeed an occasionally appropriate response, but working on the causes of this problem seems a lot more logical than breaking out bombs and bullets.
