Orlando Police Believe They’re Above The Law

newtboy says...

I really would agree….but only if that goes for everyone. No need to ever do a high speed chase or felony stop if you have the license and a photo of the driver….but that’s not how they operate.

Guaranteed if that wasn’t a cop, gun would be drawn, hands would go on, cuffs would go on, and in most cases feet would go into belly too for disrespecting their authority and trying to run. In no world would they be as calm and non confrontational with the public. I got all but the foot in the belly because a cop read my license plate wrong once, couldn’t tell a “5” from an “S”, then threatened me with unspecified retaliation if I complained…he said remember he had my address now if I cause him any trouble over this.

My point is the “good cop” gave the bad criminal cop treatment he never would give a citizen…if he did he would lose his job. It’s the preferential treatment I’m upset about. Criminal cops should be treated like the worst, most violent and vile criminal, because they are. Instead, they’re treated with kid gloves, given every benefit of a doubt and then some, and are given free vacation time on those few occasions they have anything at all happen for violating the law and the public trust. It’s an incredibly rare thing when the entire department doesn’t stand behind, and in front of shielding blatantly abusive criminal cops and attacking/harassing any accusers, which is chilling for any that might want to be “good cops”.

Why wouldn’t it be the right thing to do to let a violent aggressive and reckless speeder (in this case he was guilty of reckless evading, a felony) who is armed just scream at the cop and drive away? Because that’s shirking their duty to enforce the law. Have you ever heard of them doing any such thing (when it wasn’t one of their own)?

The Ugly Truth Behind the Will Ferrell G.M. Commercial

just saw the percentage of steam-powered and electric cars...

...that were being driven by the populace. impressive.

know electric trollies were also a thing, but they were sabotaged by gasoline concerns (killed) because read the history of the one that use to run in our small mid-western town.

anyway...electric vehicles were viable then and if other concerns (like GMC) were kept at bay...100 years later we just might be driving all-electric vehicles (maybe flying them - we were supposed to have those by now).

necessity being the mother of invention, it only makes sense to keep the future (electric cars, solar-power, etc) alive. if the nation doesn't, china (or other visionaries) may capture the solar-driven land speeder market.

[trump is guilty btw. but GOP is GMC in that scenario. will be seen as a big mistake too. maybe 'big carrot' has something to do with it. he is orange.]

An authority figure offers an intelligent rebuttal

I live on a dirt road with a 5mph limit, and people often fly by at 40mph, so this hits close to home. I just can't fathom what the parents are thinking, and would suggest that any parent that supports speeders on their block should get a visit from child protective services to see what other dangers the kids are intentionally exposed to.

No kidding. I'd have bought this cop a beer.

I don't know what the typical residential speed limits are in Australia, but here in Canada they are typically 40-50km/h. Anyone driving 70-80km/h where kids are playing deserves a stiff fine. I can't believe the parent(s) of the children in the background were supporting the speeder. Wow.

Dave Chappelle and his white friend Chip

What a load of crap. As if a cop would react like that to a white speeder.

Like, where's the pointers on launch control, or tips on decreasing your ETs to the 1/4 mile?

Just silly.

Blue Origin New Shepard Flies to Space, Lands Safely

I used to want to build a "spaceship" with my father when I was a kid. I loved the snow-speeders from Empire Strikes Back. I remember asking my dad where you got the lasers from, and if you could pick them up at the hardware store like everything else.

Star Wars Battlefront Reveal Trailer

newtboy says...

This actually makes me more excited than the new movie trailer. I've been burned by too many Star Wars movies in the past, while most Star Wars games that I've played were at least serviceable if not quite enjoyable. I can't wait to drive some speeders through Endor...if only you could target some Ewoks.
Nice to see they brought the robot camels to the forest this time. ;-)

Isle of Man TT - GUY MARTIN vs MICHAEL DUNLOP@200mph

Astounding footage, so much fun to watch. It's amazing how well they know the track, downshifting seconds before turns are even visible! Really fun to watch the chase too. Reminds me of the Star Wars Speeder Bikes, only faster.

Star Wars Imperial Speeder Bike Flying Toy

These will sell well once the new film rolls out. I mean, they'd sell well right now but I bet there'll be an official, branded release of drones with this Imperial Speeder get-up on them. They'll sell real well.

Damn it, I wanted to see the speeder bike level.
Want-want-want-want-want-want-want-WANT!

EDIT: Damn, only 3 of them, and only at Dave and Busters?!? I guess I get none, those aren't on the West coast. :-(

Numbers don't tell the whole story, do they? Were all of those deaths ruled as unjustified?

According to an article at propublica, as many as 440,000 deaths per year are attributed to poor medical care in hospitals. So what are you doing to do, take all the doctor's scalpels away?

This video shows a cop trying to find marijuana, which is still illegal in most states. What this video doesn't show is the amount of stolen property that is recovered by the same technique, which is bluffing. But of course, people who commit burglaries and thefts don't videotape the encounters they have with police officers.

Today, more and more people are learning their rights and exercising them, and fewer busts are made through bluffing. But the police will adjust to it.

When I worked the road, I didn't give a crap about speeders, so didn't run radar or laser, and I didn't really care about marijuana because alcohol is far more dangerous to people, but I did bust a couple of bikers from a biker gang trying to sell a grocery bag full of marijuana. They also had a 9mm, which would have been used to a criminal manner, I'm sure. By the way, they got off of the marijuana charge because the judge said I didn't have enough probably cause to make the stop, even though I knew through observation that they were up to something highly suspicious.
how'd you like to buy your grass from a biker with a semi-auto on him?

I know, when I was buying grass in my college days, I didn't buy it from bikers, but a lot of people do.

You were warned.

But Americans would rather watch Fox News and be afraid of terrorists than curtail the rampant abuses perpetrated by police every day.

Number of people killed by Police in the US since 9/11 = 5,000, over 350 per year

Number of American civilians killed worldwide from Terrorist attacks in 2011 = 17

Yeah, give the cops more power and bigger guns.

OTHER PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. SLOW DOWN!

scheherazade says...

Bad example.

The speeding had literally no bearing on the outcome, as it was inconsequentially close to the limit.

Take the speed down from 7 over to 7 under, and you're still at ~90% of the original speed. The crash still would have happened.

The only way to avoid it would be not violating right of way right in front of another car.

(Or, to be fair, the 'speeder' could have been going ~half the posted limit, then maybe everyone could have gotten away with just a tap.)

Speed Kills Your Pocketbook

LiquidDrift says...

Governments are profiting from unnecessary ticketing of speeders? I must have missed that somewhere. Oh wait there's a whole video about it at the top of the page!! *smacks forehead*

shatterdrose said:

So speeding isn't illegal? I must have missed that somewhere. It must be like those red light camera thingies where supposedly you have a right to run a red light or something . . .

Or do you mean to say you believe they are engaging in entrapment by forcing you to speed around turns so they can ticket you? Much like they shorten yellow lights . . . because that's totally the same thing.
